I don't understand, but what can be done?
Circumstances are stronger than people. Even though Butcher had ten thousand curses in his heart, he could only swallow them all at this moment.
"I understand, I really understand." He forced a strained, ugly smile, his belly full of anger, and said with a forced cheer, "I've given you the goods. As agreed, you should tell me Rebecca's location, right?"
"As per the agreement, we will trade Compound V for the whereabouts of your wife."
Alvin beckoned, and the remaining vials flew to him. Under Butcher's expectant gaze, he deliberately sighed, "But, you should understand the meaning of 'but', right?"
"You lied to me? You bastard, you promised me!"
Upon hearing "but," Butcher's heart instantly chilled. He roared like a madman, like a rampaging bull.
"No, no, no, I think you may have misunderstood, Mr. Butcher."
Alvin shook his head and said calmly, "I just want to tell you that these few vials are temporary Compound V, at best 'inferior products,' and do not meet our trading conditions."
"Temporary Compound V? What does that mean?" Butcher, who was furious, suddenly calmed down.
"It means that although these few vials of Compound V can grant superpowers, they only last for 24 hours." Alvin sighed softly, feigning regret, "Therefore, I cannot tell you your wife's exact location. However, as compensation, I can give you a clue."
Butcher calmed down. He knew the other party was doing this on purpose, but with his weakness exposed, he had no choice but to endure it. "Fine, a clue is a clue!"
"Vought International, Dr. Vogelbaum."
Alvin turned and slowly left the factory, his voice echoing inside. "When you find the complete Compound V, you can come back to trade with me."
Only after his figure had completely disappeared did the cold temperature inside the factory finally begin to warm up.
Butcher, who had regained his ability to move, had veins bulging on his forehead, his bloodshot eyes glaring in the direction Alvin had left. "Next time, I'll definitely make you..."
Alvin checked into a low-end hotel with the few remaining dollars he had.
The advantage was that it was not far from Vought, allowing him to directly observe the area around Vought International. The disadvantage was the questionable hygiene.
However, to a scavenger from the Underhive, it was already quite luxurious.
"Is this, in a sense, crying without tears?"
Alvin rubbed his throbbing temples, trying hard to control the power from overflowing. "I didn't expect that the superpower I awakened would be psychic abilities!"
Whether it was the sudden drop in temperature in the factory, the frost covering the ground and facilities, or the faint blue flames and lightning when using his abilities.
There was no doubt that it all pointed to the most terrifying power in the Warhammer Universe: psychic abilities!
Psychics are the only sincere blessing from the Chaos Warp, or perhaps the deepest curse upon all Humanity!
When each Psychic fights, their soul projection in the Warp becomes like a blazing flame!
In the eyes of the Daemons lurking in the Warp, Psychics are like high-brightness indicator lights, attracting a continuous stream of Daemons who attempt to devour the Psychic's soul projection in the Warp!
And the status and living environment of most Psychics can be described in one sentence: even worse than that of an Underhive scavenger!
In the Warhammer world, under the oppressive policies of the Imperium of Man, unlicensed Psychics are extremely dangerous existences, easily targeted by the Chaos Gods and turned into walking nuclear bombs.
Moreover, the Imperium of Man constantly patrols with numerous Black Ships across various worlds to capture, hunt down, or receive Psychics!
Then, they are either sent to Terra, the Throne World, to be burned as fuel for the Astronomican, or imprisoned until death.
Alvin did not want to be captured and burned as fuel for the Astronomican in the Throne Hall, nor did he want to encounter a fanatical Inquisitor and be finely chopped into mincemeat.
Therefore, only one path lay before him.
Learn to control his psychic abilities as much as possible and hide his identity as a Psychic!
"According to the Imperium of Man's 24-level classification, I should be an 'A-class' Psychic." Alvin breathed a sigh of relief, suddenly feeling a bit fortunate.
It wasn't that he didn't want to become stronger, but that any higher psychic levels, such as Zeta-class and Epsilon-class, would result in strict Imperial control upon discovery.
And the stronger the Psychic, the larger and hotter their soul projection in the Warp, the more easily they attract the attention of the Chaos Gods!
So, on some level, Alvin was fortunate that he was still at a relatively safe level.
At least he wouldn't be noticed by the Chaos Gods or the Imperial Inquisition or the Lexicanum.
"Next, it's Vought Corporation's turn."
Alvin looked out at the charming night view outside the window and glanced at his watch. "Well, it's time."
He knew very well that Vought Corporation would never allow Homelander to take risks and interact with a mysterious person who knew his past, so he needed to add some fuel to the fire.
Opening his Twitter app, he saw that a video had indeed been quickly pushed to the top.
The video content was simple. Using the persona of "Jigsaw," it mentioned Compound V and some of Homelander's background, issuing an ultimatum to Vought Corporation: if Homelander did not come to rescue The Invisible Man within 24 hours, it would release all the remaining content!
Although Vought reacted quickly and deleted the video directly, he had backups and scheduled timed posts using multiple IPs from different locations.
He believed that Vought International would soon be unable to sit still, as Homelander's identity and Compound V were their biggest secrets to survival!
Alvin briefly replied to a few text messages from Starlight and then lay down to rest.
Vought Corporation, just across the street, would clearly have many sleepless people tonight.
The sudden public outcry on Twitter caused the company's stock price to plummet, evaporating billions of dollars out of thin air. Vice President Madelyn was almost driven mad.
"Find him! No matter the cost, find this bastard!" This woman, who had always concealed herself with shrewdness and competence, now seemed completely deranged, roaring hysterically, "I don't care what methods you use, find this bastard for me immediately, do you understand?!"
Ashley endured the vice president's rage, her face splashed with water, trembling, "Yes, we'll find him as soon as possible."
Just then, Homelander pushed the door open, casting a cold glance at Ashley, "You, get out."
Ashley glanced fearfully at Madelyn, who crossed his arms and waved his hand as if to ward off bad luck, "Get lost, I don't want to see your stupid face!"
Having received the order, Ashley lowered her head and hurried away as if rescued.
Closing the door, Homelander finally turned to Madelyn, a hint of infatuation in his eyes, but quickly recovered, saying gravely, "I should be the one to handle this, no one is more suitable than me!"
"No, no, no, you absolutely cannot go!"
Madelyn shook his head resolutely, pointing at Homelander, raising his voice, "Do you hear me? We'll handle this, you stay here obediently, you're not allowed to go anywhere!"
"Who else is more suitable than me?"
Homelander was furious, his face contorted and twisted, showing no trace of a hero, he roared, "You should know very well, Madelyn, that guy knows my past. If I don't go, then all the fans in America will know what I looked like in the past!"
Just a moment ago, after that video on Twitter fermented, Homelander's approval rating had dropped by 10%!
This was what truly terrified him. Once the public knew that he had been controlled since childhood and lived in such an environment, his approval rating would be completely ruined!
"Listen, you are not allowed to go, this is a company order!"
Madelyn couldn't explain it to him. The company was afraid of Homelander losing control, so he could only try to soften his tone, opening his arms as he had before, "Come on, John, come into my arms."
Homelander's throat felt dry, he swallowed, and walked over step by step.
Then, Madelyn embraced Homelander gently, like hugging a newborn baby, and lifted the outer shirt.
Homelander greedily sucked on Madelyn, revealing a satisfied and comfortable expression.
"Good, just like that, John."
Madelyn closed his eyes, stroking Homelander in his arms.
However, she didn't notice the contorted face of Homelander in her arms, nor the glint of rebellion and malice in his eyes.
