The Rift leading into the Underdark stretched for dozens of meters, like a wound torn across the earth's salt-crusted skin.

Perhaps it was his imagination, but whenever Tang looked at the Rift, he felt a faint cold draft seeping out.

That was understandable. He still hadn't seen a road leading underground, let alone a staircase.

So how did these Drow Elves enter the Underdark? Did they use Spider Climb to cling to the Rift's sheer walls? Or lower themselves into its depths on climbing ropes?

The answer was the simplest one—

Perhaps sensing a challenge to his authority, the Drow captain's friendliness toward Tang turned to irritation. He shoved Tang's shoulder without mercy and let him fall into the Abyss.

"Fuck you."

Tang had been through his share of danger, but without Feather Fall or any other spell to cushion his descent, the sudden weightlessness still startled a cry out of him—

The world spun. The bottomless Rift gradually swallowed his vision in black, while the chill peculiar to the underground crept over his skin, almost clammy.

But after only a few seconds, True Sight helped him make out thin strands of silk strung between the cliffs in his gray-white field of vision.

At first there were only a few scattered strands. As he fell, they grew denser, gathering into a broad, tightly woven web.

It caught Tang, sticking to his skin and clothes so that the force of its rebound did not fling him back into the air. As the web bounced beneath him, Shalti, Night Wind, and the Drow Elves landed on it one after another. Unlike the captives, who remained stuck to the web,

the Drow climbed easily to their feet. Once the web had broken their falls, it seemed unable to stick to their armor.
