Background / History
Shivana rose to chieftain of the mixed-species [Roaring] tribe through combat. The tribe values demonstrated power rather than bloodline, allowing a mixed-blood warrior such as Shivana to lead; however, the goblin prophetess Babaya retained greater prestige and undermined her authority. Before meeting Tang Qi, Shivana led a vanguard that raided humans in the forest, earning admiration from some tribespeople while worsening the tribe's instability during its migration. 42
When Tang Qi and Black Snake captured Babaya, Shivana proposed a duel to establish her authority and settle their fate. Black Snake ultimately let her win, leaving Shivana aware that her celebrated victory was undeserved; nevertheless, she honored the wager and allowed Tang Qi's group to leave. 43 45
Three months later, Shivana traveled to Dragon Gold City with Houke and several disguised goblins to obtain promised food for the tribe. She encountered Tang Qi again, learned that Black Snake had died, and attacked Tang Qi in anger. His Blade of the Sage disrupted her Rage and forced her to question the purpose of her anger for the first time. 172 173
After Shivana was imprisoned, she signed Tang Qi's “Fair Contract” in exchange for freedom for herself and Anbi. Tang Qi subsequently used its restrictions to prevent her from harming others or leaving his vicinity, framing it as a slave contract and repeatedly exploiting her belief that she could not resist it. 191 195 196
Shivana returned to the tribe and found Babaya had seized control by exploiting the food crisis and releasing the imprisoned half-orc ogre Slug. Shivana accepted Slug's challenge for leadership but was defeated after he unveiled fireball attacks and a flame-imbued club. Tang Qi's party intervened, defeated Babaya and Slug, and left Shivana to confront the destruction caused by Babaya's rule and the tribe's pursuit of violence. 198 199 200
Following Babaya's death, Shivana helped lead the surviving tribe south under Tang Qi's plan to make them mercenaries. Though she remained nominally chieftain, she gradually accepted Tang Qi's leadership after he revised the tribe's doctrine and united its orcs and goblins. 204 205 230
During later travels, Shivana trained Anbi in Rage, fought alongside Tang Qi's group against Lizardmen and a young Red Dragon, and carried an Orichalcum Coffin through an elemental storm because her Rage granted exceptional elemental resistance. The storm awakened her Wild Magic path, leaving her unconscious for a month while uncontrolled vines, branches, and daisies grew around her. 213 260 261 269 280
Appearance
Shivana is a light-green-skinned half-orc with a muscular but proportionate build, long strong legs, defined abdominal muscles, short fangs, and messy dreadlocks braided into a ponytail. Her human-like features make her appearance closer to human standards than that of most orcs. 195
- Light green skin, exceptionally tough while empowered by Rage. 44 246
- Slender yet powerful arms and a heavily trained physique. 195
- Two short fangs and braided dreadlocks. 195
- Carries a person-tall Great Axe. 43
- After entering the Wild Magic path, vines and white daisies can grow over her body and equipment. 280 364
Personality
Shivana is proud, blunt, impulsive, and accustomed to solving disputes through direct combat. As a chieftain raised in a tribe where strength establishes legitimacy, she initially struggles to separate leadership from violence, reacts strongly to humiliation, and finds it difficult to think through consequences before acting. 43 45 253
Despite her aggression, Shivana is deeply protective of the tribe and of Houke. She travels into Dragon Gold City rather than abandon him, refuses to let the tribe slaughter its Sky Turtle for food, and accepts dangerous responsibilities when she believes she is uniquely able to protect others. 172 199 269
Her failures as chieftain, loss of authority to Babaya, and frustration at Anbi's rapid progress leave her insecure and prone to uncontrolled Rage. Tang Qi later helps her articulate these insecurities and teaches her to examine causes before acting, beginning a gradual shift toward self-awareness. 253 254
Shivana has difficulty accepting concern or kindness. When Tang Qi tells her to rest because she is important to the tribe, she reacts defensively rather than acknowledging the care behind his words. 284
Abilities & Skills
Barbarian Rage and Brute Bear Totem
Shivana's Barbarian power is rooted in Rage and the Brute Bear Totem Spirit. A phantom bear manifests behind her as her physical capabilities increase.
- Greatly enhances strength, endurance, and pain tolerance. 44 199
- Hardens her skin to the point that ordinary weapons may leave only shallow wounds. 44 246
- Allows her to trade injuries for decisive attacks against more agile opponents. 44
- Provides broad elemental resistance; mental attacks remain her primary stated weakness. 261
- Rage can impair her judgment and make her attacks more predictable or reckless. 44 253
Berserk and Wild Magic
After surviving an elemental storm, Shivana enters the Wild Magic path. Her Berserk state now triggers unstable magical effects.
- Can produce uncontrolled vines, branches, grass, and blooming daisies around her. 280
- Has caused involuntary teleportation during combat. 283 284
- Allows her to fight through severe exhaustion for a short period. 283
- Wild Magic remains unreliable and may interfere with her ability to fight normally. 284
- Can combine with her thrown axe to switch positions with it in battle. 364
Great Axe Combat
Shivana is a front-line fighter who relies on a long-handled Great Axe, aggressive momentum, and overwhelming physical force.
- Uses broad rotating swings, wind-generating strikes, and rapid follow-up attacks. 43 45
- Can recall a thrown axe to her hand through its Spin blessing. 43 246
- Uses the axe defensively to intercept javelins, blades, and dragon attacks. 250 261
- Her original Great Axe was damaged beyond use by a Red Dragon's scales and teeth. 260 277
Peril Sense and Darkvision
As a wilderness Barbarian, Shivana possesses instincts suited to navigating danger.
- Can see through darkness with gray-and-white Darkvision. 283
- Uses Peril Sense to distinguish danger and choose safer paths through dense fog and illusions. 283
- Her instincts are less effective against unfamiliar magical threats whose source she cannot identify. 283
Equipment / Weapons / Items

- Replacement Great Axe — A lighter axe used after her former weapon was ruined during the Red Dragon battle. 277 283
- Leather armor — Worn during the duel with Slug; damaged by his explosive fireballs. 199
- Mint leaves — Initially hated by Shivana, but later used regularly for oral hygiene. 172 213 284
Relationships
- Tang Qi Weinberg — Initially an enemy and later her contract holder. Tang Qi manipulates and directs Shivana, but also helps her understand her insecurities, values her survival, and prepares her to eventually lead the tribe independently. 195 254 284
- Houke — Her fiercely loyal, sibling-like protector. Shivana refuses to abandon him despite his damaged mind, while Houke instinctively prioritizes her safety over tribal rules. 172 199
- Babaya — Goblin prophetess and political rival who repeatedly undermines Shivana's authority, engineers the tribe's food crisis, and attempts to replace her with Slug. 42 198 199
- Black Snake — Her opponent in the leadership duel. He deliberately loses, leaving Shivana conflicted over the honor and legitimacy of her victory. 43 45
- Anbi — A trainee under Shivana's instruction in Rage. Shivana's resentment of Anbi's natural aptitude leads her to lose control during training, after which she begins confronting her own insecurities. 213 253
- Dawn — A frequent ally in Tang Qi's group. They coordinate against major enemies, including the Deep Pit Lord. 261 364
- Slug — Half-orc ogre and rival claimant to the chieftainship. Shivana had previously defeated and imprisoned him, but his new fire-based abilities overwhelm her in their rematch. 198 199
