Background / History

Anbi was born with the Beastification Curse after her hunter father contracted it while killing a werewolf during a noble hunt. Unable to safely return to Star Plum Town, he lived in the Twilight Forest with Anbi and her mother. After Anbi's mother died, he entrusted his cursed daughter to a close friend—Catherine's mother—before leaving to avenge his wife. Anbi grew up knowing that her father had left, but held onto the hope that he would return. 69 84

She was raised alongside Catherine as her non-biological younger sister. Because Star Plum Town feared Beastmen and the contagious curse, Anbi hid beneath a hood and endured isolation, bullying, and being called a monster. Her snow-white ears and bestial eyes made concealment necessary whenever she went outside. 8 11 91 252

After meeting Tang Qi, Anbi became his first enthusiastic listener. She brought him a razor so he would look more like a poet, asked him to repeat his tavern song, carefully memorized its lyrics, and promised him a taste of her homemade star plum wine. 5

During the Harvest Festival, townspeople accused Anbi of stealing the David family's star plums and bound her on an execution platform. Tang Qi exposed the lack of evidence and secured an official declaration of her innocence regarding the theft. However, Anbi later admitted that she had destroyed the orchard in retaliation for George David's bullying. Catherine destroyed Anbi's first barrel of wine to teach her that anger does not erase the consequences of her choices. 9 11 20 21

Anbi ultimately accepted responsibility for the orchard damage and resolved to apologize. Tang Qi renamed the lost first batch of wine “A Lesson,” a name Anbi embraced as a reminder of what she had learned. 21 23

While traveling through the Twilight Forest, Anbi learned that the spellcaster impersonating her father had killed him. She attempted to attack the necromancer in grief, but Catherine restrained her because she could not meaningfully harm such a powerful opponent. Later, Anbi rushed toward the enemy again when Tang Qi called on her to confront her blood enemy; she was severely injured by the necromancer's Chilling Touch but survived through Dawn's healing. 69 79 81

In Dragon Gold City, worsening Beastification led to Anbi's imprisonment alongside other Beastmen. There, Marian helped her confront her belief that she was only a burden to Catherine and Tang Qi. Anbi eventually returned to free Marian and the other Beastmen during Tang Qi's escape plan. 178 179 191

During a Twin Moon Night, Anbi nearly lost herself to the curse. Tang Qi refused to simply knock her unconscious; instead, he helped her regain control and understand that her existence matters to those around her.
