Background / History

Amber Xiu remembers three lives. In his first, he was a science graduate who drifted through life and died regretting that his ambitions amounted to little. After transmigrating, he initially believed himself destined for rapid greatness, only to learn that even attaining the Legendary realm did not make him exceptional 9.

During his early years as an adventurer, he became a Prophecy Mage alongside a noble-born companion known as Mr. Misfortune. Their disagreement over whether prophecy should serve the world or a comfortable life ended in a wager that Amber Xiu’s companion lost 302. Amber later became a Lich, retaining his magical ability and calculating temperament while losing much of his physical sensation.

As a Lich, Amber Xiu built a laboratory and castle, practiced necromancy and alchemy, and concealed his identity with human transformations to avoid racial discrimination. He began using the alias “Diga Ultraman” in public 17 19. His efforts eventually expanded into alchemy production, political bargaining, military planning, and alliances with the Mourning Poetry Society.

After his apparent death, Amber Xiu’s preparations caused his soul to bind to the Magic Mirror rather than be repaired in Hell’s alchemical furnace. This left him simultaneously present in every Magic Mirror and beyond the direct reach of Zariel and Mammon 527. He later pursued quasi-divinity and authority in Hell to escape the Goddess of Destiny’s influence 542 543.

Appearance

Amber Xiu commonly hides his Lich form behind magical disguises, most often appearing as a black-haired, black-eyed young man. His disguised appearance is striking enough to be mistaken for someone with elven ancestry, though his features do not match any known human region 17 19.

Amber Xiu is intensely pragmatic, profit-driven, and habitually suspicious. He approaches war, diplomacy, alchemy, and even divine affairs as negotiations in which information and leverage have a price. His reputation for greed is widespread, and he openly prioritizes profitable arrangements 117 130.

He is also highly adaptable. He abandons plans when their risks outweigh their benefits, uses disguises rather than force when useful, and turns hostile encounters into commercial opportunities whenever possible. Even when facing deities, he remains willing to bargain, deceive, or challenge them 318 382.

Despite his ruthlessness, Amber Xiu follows a personal principle: he repays those who have sincerely helped him and punishes betrayal. He distinguishes this from his own greed, insisting that he has never schemed against true friends 606. His later choices toward the Withering Rose and Naomi show a growing respect for others’ feelings and free will 167 539.
