Background

Catherine was recognized as the Elf Race's future queen from birth. Her exceptional beauty was regarded as a sign of divine favor, while her talent in both magic and the arts surpassed that of her peers. After becoming a Legendary, she was personally crowned by the former Elf King. 111

Her early reign was highly successful. Catherine led the Elf Race through crises including the Felin Magic Sunflower plague and the Beast Wars, and her Ranger abilities enabled major military victories. 111

Her greatest failure began after her second Legendary ascension. Believing Selfless Sharing could strengthen her people, she granted portions of her Legendary power to Twilight Guards, artisans, and young Elves. Half of the Elf Race eventually received some of her power. 111

Recipients who lacked the corresponding Legendary understanding developed Magic Addiction Disease: their bodies continually demanded Magic Power, and those unable to replenish it would die in agony. Catherine accepted responsibility for bringing the Elf Race to the brink of collapse, though the former Elf King insisted that the decision had been collectively supported. 111

The Elf Race invaded Alchemy City's territory to secure alchemical production resources and delay the disease's onset. While seeking the release of captured Twilight Guards, Catherine discovered that Amber Xiu's sealing technique could isolate the shared Legendary power and potentially save the afflicted Elves. 112 123

After the sealing method was distributed, Catherine resigned as Queen and publicly acknowledged her responsibility. The Elf Race forgave her, but former King Hildas Terra stripped her honors and reduced her to commoner status. 265

Her kindness does not make her passive. Through her travels with Amber Xiu, Catherine becomes more capable of deception, political judgment, negotiation, and independent action. She remains uncomfortable with cruelty and manipulation, but learns to recognize when they are being used around her. 162 201 291

Catherine's mass distribution of Legendary power causes widespread Magic Addiction Disease among the Elf Race. Refusing to abandon the afflicted, she supports the seizure of Alchemy City's alchemical resources as a temporary survival measure. 111 112

Negotiations with Amber Xiu

After a demon ambush interrupts her journey, Catherine meets Amber Xiu and discovers that his seals can isolate the dangerous power she shared. Their negotiations force her to confront her weakness in diplomacy, ending with her agreement to work as his experimental assistant. 121 123 125 130

Sealing the Dragon

Catherine enters the body of a Magic-Addicted Dragon to seal its heart from within. She cuts through its stomach wall, reaches the heart, and activates the sealing scroll despite the danger. 139

Resignation and Adventuring

After the Elf Race receives the sealing technique, Catherine steps down as Queen and follows Amber Xiu to gain worldly experience. She trains him in Ranger techniques, undertakes disguises and infiltration work, and becomes increasingly capable of acting independently. 142 143 146 162

The Elven Gods offer Catherine the drow racial Divine Position, requiring her to gain the faith of at least half the drow population and reintegrate them into the Elf Race.
