Background

Harvey was abandoned at birth and raised alongside more than a dozen other abandoned infants by a man who treated them as livestock. He escaped only after the man died of alcohol poisoning, using his clothes as a rope to retrieve the key to his cage; none of the other children survived. 216

After years of wandering, Harvey hid in a monastery at age twelve. The priests fed him and taught him to read, but their “doctrine” was actually demonic scripture worshipping Demogorgon. He escaped after recognizing the deception, only to later discover that writing his name in the demonic language could attract monsters. 216

At sixteen, Harvey's first spell destroyed a Gnoll with demonic magic, revealing him as a Warlock favored by Demogorgon. Although the power gave him security and access to learning, he refused to accept a future bound to the demon prince. A Necromancer later deceived him with a false promise of memory cleansing, but Harvey read enough introductory material to identify the undead-conversion ritual and used a newly acquired Dice of Destiny to kill his captor. 216

The same escape marked Harvey's transition into a Prophet Mage. At eighteen, he began travelling the Continent, relying on scrying, intuition, and Lie Detection to avoid further deception. He eventually reached Alchemy City, discovered that the King of Elden was Amber Xiu, and came to regard the Lich as the author whose book had changed his life. 216

Appearance

Harvey is a young human Mage. During periods of intense research, he neglects his appearance severely, becoming difficult to recognize beneath stubble, greasy matted hair, ink-stained sleeves, and unchanged clothes. 563

He is intellectually curious and unusually gifted at deriving a spell's principles from introductory knowledge. His self-taught background leaves gaps in his practical spell repertoire, yet he can master obscure prophecy techniques with remarkable speed. 216 220

Harvey's view of Fate is conflicted. He has accepted predicted death with unusual calm, but continues searching for ways to protect others from tragic futures. He prefers happy endings even when they are illogical, which motivates his desire to save figures such as Mr. Misfortune. 150 351 564

Lyne Empire Advisor and Capture

Harvey served as a magic advisor to a minor Lyne lord and accompanied a Paladin during the assault on Amber Xiu's Mage Tower. He survived the tower's defenses and entered with the Paladin, only to fall into Amber Xiu's trap. 35

While held at Amber Xiu's castle, Harvey wrote an article about the captured Paladin Allen under Amber Xiu's direction. The article was used to inform Allen's father of the capture and imply a ransom demand. 39

Amber Xiu's Student

Harvey initially believed Amber Xiu intended to sacrifice him in a prophecy ritual and attempted to sabotage the magic circle. Instead, Amber Xiu tested his knowledge, formally recognized him as a Mage, and guided him through the divination. 47 48

Their relationship shifted decisively when Amber Xiu entrusted him with a phylactery and Harvey swore to protect it with his life. 72

Foretold Death and Ganlu City Captivity

Harvey foresaw his own death in two months and began recording his life's work in a notebook for Amber Xiu. He accepted the prediction calmly, while Amber Xiu chose to interfere with his fate. 150

After Alchemy City's destruction, Harvey was captured by Sawtooth Knife's Orc tribe. He saved himself by gambling, endured captivity, and eventually pursued the prophecy of his death through the fraudulent Sand Lizard commission. 217 229

The predicted Sand Lizard attack proved to be a staged false prophecy. Harvey realized Amber Xiu had altered time and fabricated the event to save him, then returned to study under him despite being charged 180 million Gold Coins for the intervention. 231

Mr. Misfortune's Teachings

Harvey delivered Amber Xiu's letter to Mr. Misfortune in the Tiefling Kingdom and witnessed the senior Prophecy Mage's ability to evade soldiers through Fate. Mr. Misfortune taught him to perceive the Threads of Fate and gave him a Stone Tablet that marked Harvey as his prospective student. 301 302

Following Mr. Misfortune's death, Harvey wanted to resurrect him and later researched means of changing or shielding unfortunate futures. His work caused Mr. Misfortune's soul fragment to grow, suggesting that the dead Mage's Fate had changed. 351 564

Business Steward and Researcher

When Amber Xiu was absent, Harvey became responsible for major parts of his teacher's business network. He negotiated against attempts to seize those assets, but ultimately allowed the Withering Rose to manage them so he could focus on study. 512 513

Amber Xiu later placed Harvey in charge of a new Tiefling trade route. Harvey eventually delegated the underground alchemy factory's operational management to Isabelle and immersed himself in soul-fragment and fate research. 351 563

Cyric's Ritual and Legendary Advancement

Following a directive from Fate, Harvey entered his teacher's castle alone in search of an opportunity to advance. Cyric deceived him, exploited his suppressed resentment toward Amber Xiu, and pushed his fragile soul into collapse through hypnosis. 609 610

Cyric's attempt to repair Harvey's soul in Hell instead gave Harvey the energy and insight needed to deepen his understanding of Fate. Harvey realized that inaction can also alter Fate, allowing certain binding Threads to dissolve on their own. 613

The soul-forging process elevated Harvey to Legendary rank and granted him the Goddess of Destiny's Favor. Zariel's intervention protected him from Bael, after which Harvey contacted Amber Xiu from Hell. 614
