Background / History

Toudou Kirin is the daughter of the Toudou Style Swordsmanship Head Family. When she was eight, she was taken hostage during a robbery; her father was imprisoned after killing a robber to save her. Kirin entered Asterisk seeking a way to free him. 32 36

Her uncle, Toudou Kouichirou, exploited that wish to control her. He arranged her opponents, compiled extensive intelligence on them, and demanded that she remain an unprecedented Ranked First so that he could advance his own standing and eventually use his influence on her father's case. 20 32 35

Kirin initially believed her rank was dependent on Kouichirou's support. Azer's challenge and subsequent intervention gave her an alternative path: the Phoenix Star Martial Festival's champion could request a wish from the Integrated Enterprise Foundations. After separating herself from her uncle's influence, she pursued the tournament with Azer as her Partner. 38 40 41 42

Kirin is shy, soft-spoken, and easily embarrassed. She frequently apologizes even when she has done nothing wrong, and Kouichirou's intimidation leaves her anxious and accustomed to lowering her head rather than resisting. 19 20

In their designated duel, Kirin reveals Linked Crane and forces Azer into a prolonged defense. Azer ultimately defeats her by eliminating the heat trail she had used to track his movements, taking the Ranked First position. 36 37 38

Yulis Ambush

Kirin secretly observes Yulis and Ayato's duel near the Girls' Dormitory. When an unknown attacker fires light arrows at Yulis, Kirin intervenes without hesitation and helps identify the assailant's direction. 23 24

Phoenix Star Martial Festival

After her loss, Kirin accepts Azer's invitation to become his Partner for the Phoenix Star Martial Festival. The pair train together for a month, improving their coordination and adapting their close-combat styles around each other's strengths. 38 42 44

During the festival, Kirin demonstrates that she is not merely Azer's support. She overwhelms opponents with Linked Crane, pressures Irene Ursais in close combat, and nearly defeats Ayato after adapting to the Azure Cry Magic Sword. 50 63 73
