Background / History

Luojiao Saintess

Gu Xiaosang emerged as the Saintess of the Luojiao Cult, one of the Nine Demonic Paths. Rumors identified her as Wusheng Laomu's current reincarnation. At only eight opened apertures, she had already earned fourth place on the Human Ranking through a record of killing stronger opponents. 42

Her early schemes centered on the Demon Tomb. Using the White Lotus Divine Calculation, she determined that one of Meng Qi's group could fully open it, lured them inside, and sought the Heavenly Court Boundary Tablet from the Demon Lord's remains. The tablet was meant to serve as a key to the Nine Heavens, also called the Immortal Realm Ruins. 109

The Xuan Nü Scheme

Gu Xiaosang investigated Xuan Nü's Successor and identified Shan Xiumei as a Nirmanakaya rather than the successor's true body. She later captured Shan Xiumei, drained her Essence Blood and Internal Energy, and used the resulting manifestation to escape with Xuan Nü's Successor when Meng Qi intervened. 226 234

Her pursuit of this secret continued through Liu Shuyu and Liu Luo. She revealed that she had arranged her friendship with Liu Shuyu to expose the Jade Family's secrets, then forced an alliance through a contract witnessed by powerful beings. 493 In the Sü Nü Immortal Realm, she confronted the consciousness mixed into Liu Luo and exploited the arrival of Nine Heavens Xuan Nü's remains. 636

Partnership with Meng Qi

Gu Xiaosang repeatedly inserted herself into Meng Qi's affairs, addressing him as her “husband” in public and using the claim to deter enemies or create confusion. She rescued him from Ze Luoju after he was weakened by the Body Sacrifice Art, then took him away before revealing hints of her broader ambitions. 424

While disguised as Shang Shui Fairy, she exposed Meng Qi's identity and explained that she had arranged the encounter to help him comprehend the Overlord's Absolute Saber. They formed a contract to cooperate in the Nine Heavens Ruins. 630 631 During their escape through the Heavenly Court, she repeatedly fought alongside him, saved him from the Exiled Immortal Pool, and weakened the Sun God Lord's attack at grave personal cost. 697 705

Afterward, she secretly fed Meng Qi two Three Lives Fruits—one for each of them—while refusing to fully explain their effect. 706 Her apparent death was later announced by the Lord of Six Paths Samsara as occurring at Zhending's hands. 908

Death, Revival, and Defiance

Gu Xiaosang's death did not end her preparations. Meng Qi later concluded that a body found by Lu Ya was a replacement body she had prepared to sever her past and escape Wusheng Laomu's control. 961 She ultimately revived with Meng Qi's help and concealed herself in his acupoints to remain beyond the Golden Emperor's detection. 1178

She and Meng Qi came to recognize that both were being used by greater powers. Gu Xiaosang acknowledged that she intended to seek the Dao Fruit realm even if Meng Qi opposed her, while leaving him a lotus seed as a memorial should she die by his hand. 784 785

During Meng Qi's attempt to reach the Other Shore, Gu Xiaosang arranged for the Supreme True Buddha to absorb the Dao Fruit imprint and merged with a Heavenly Dao Monster to disrupt the Golden Emperor's designs. She was prepared to sacrifice herself to create time for Meng Qi's enlightenment. 1355 1356

The Golden Emperor later revealed that Gu Xiaosang's life and actions had been manipulated to assist its pursuit of the Dao Fruit. 1359 At the end of the Epoch, she turned that struggle against her manipulator: after the Golden Emperor injured her and attempted to absorb her power, she killed it with Wusheng Finger and became an Ancient One. 1409

Gu Xiaosang is a peerlessly beautiful young woman, most often dressed in white. Her appearance combines an ethereal, sacred purity with an unsettling charm that makes her danger easy to overlook. 96 101 631

She habitually mixes truth with deception, treats alliances as tools, and plans years ahead through intelligence networks, divination, and carefully planted contingencies. Her manipulation of Liu Shuyu, the Demon Tomb expedition, and the Xuan Nü Successor plot all reflect a willingness to sacrifice others for information, power, or position. 109 493 1424

Her public persona is markedly different from her private behavior. Before Luojiao followers, she appears holy, noble, and remote; around Meng Qi, she is teasing, capricious, and openly provocative. Both faces coexist with a capacity for casual killing. 773 774

Beneath her ruthlessness lies a fierce fear of losing her own identity to Wusheng Laomu and the Golden Emperor's designs. This makes her sympathetic to Meng Qi's struggle against predestination, though it does not make her harmless or reliably loyal. 784 1359
