Hyuga Makoto joined Kakashi’s Anbu squad, defeated Ao and survived a clash with Orochimaru while advancing his Tenseigan. As Shisui and Itachi faced the Uchiha crisis, Makoto intervened when Danzo attacked Shisui, but Shisui still leapt from a cliff after entrusting his remaining eye to Itachi.

• Hyuga Makoto submitted an Anbu application to Hiruzen Sarutobi, explaining that he hoped to pursue the change Hizashi Hyuga had wanted for their clan, and awakened the Moon Otsutsuki Template afterward.
• Hyuga Hiashi accepted Makoto’s Anbu service, and Makoto joined Kakashi and Tenzo on a mission near the Land of Whirlpools.
• Makoto defeated Ao and took his Byakugan, then argued with Uchiha Shisui that leaving Ao alive would endanger Konoha.
• Makoto’s squad encountered Orochimaru and Shinno at the abandoned laboratory, where Makoto defeated Shinno and refused Orochimaru’s offer to join him.

Hyuga Makoto gained new powers and maneuvered through missions involving Orochimaru, Scorpion, and the Akatsuki while preparing to reshape the Hyuga clan. The arc ended when a mysterious masked man interrupted the battle and unleashed a strange explosion.

• Hiruzen Sarutobi cut Root’s size and funding after Danzo reported attacks on Shisui, and Makoto received Yin Release as a reward for saving him.
• Makoto joined Kakashi, Tenzo, and Uchiha Itachi on a mission to confront Orochimaru and Scorpion, then unleashed the Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion and devastated the battlefield.
• Makoto replaced Shisui’s lost eyes with Sharingan, while Obito entered Konoha to investigate Shisui’s apparent suicide and observe Itachi.
• Makoto and Kakashi found Obito watching Itachi, reported the masked figure to Hiruzen, and received permission for Makoto to study techniques in the secret vault.
• Makoto learned secret techniques and planned ways to alter the Caged Bird seal, while Hiashi acknowledged the seal’s flaws and listened to Makoto’s proposal to remedy past regrets.

Hyuga Makoto gained new power while investigating Obito and the growing conflict between Konoha and the Uchiha. As Itachi began the clan massacre, Makoto confronted Obito, then joined Konoha’s forces at the Clan Head Residence, where Itachi emerged with Susanoo beside his parents’ bodies.

• Makoto fought Obito and Black Zetsu, revealed his knowledge of Chakra’s origins, and gained Black Zetsu’s Yin-Yang Release knowledge after the enemy escaped the Orbital Cannon’s strike.
• Makoto and Konoha’s leaders investigated Obito’s connection to the Nine-Tails Incident and suspected that he had influenced Itachi, while Makoto weakened Neji’s Caged Bird seal and demanded that Neji accept him as his adoptive father.
• Makoto exposed Obito at the cemetery and fought him, using his Byakugan and Karma to counter Kamui before Obito escaped, and Konoha’s leaders began investigating whether the masked man was the supposedly dead Uchiha Obito.
• Makoto absorbed a portion of Obito’s Yin Release, awakened Sacrificial Alchemy, and began developing the Nucleus Organization with Shisui as tensions around the Uchiha grew.
• Fugaku revealed his Mangekyo and the Uchiha coup plan to Itachi, who reported it to Hiruzen and agreed to handle the rebellion, and Obito then agreed to help Itachi eliminate the clan while sparing Sasuke.
• Itachi attacked the Uchiha, but Konoha’s forces had been alerted, and Makoto confronted Obito at the Police Department and entered his Different Space, where an explosion left Obito badly injured, though he survived through Izanagi.
• Makoto arrived as Itachi faced Fugaku and Mikoto, then joined Hiruzen’s order to attack and blasted the Clan Head Residence, and Itachi emerged unharmed with Susanoo active beside his parents’ bodies.

Hyuga Makoto exposed Obito’s role in the Uchiha massacre and Kirigakure’s Bloody Mist, while breaking the Caged Bird system within the Hyuga clan and recruiting Kisame. The arc ended with Kakashi awakening his Mangekyō Sharingan and Makoto defeating Obito after the Three-Tails rampaged through Kirigakure.

• Hyuga Makoto drove Uchiha Itachi back with his Byakugan and Yin Seal, but Obito pulled Itachi away through Kamui as Sasuke watched.
• Hyuga Makoto mastered Sage Mode through his unusual perception of Natural Energy, developed his Clone’s Wood Release, and helped Shisui restore Susanoo.
• Hyuga Makoto and Shisui confronted Itachi and Juzo Biwa in the Land of Waves, but Obito rescued them after Makoto’s attack badly burned him.
