Background / History

Xiao Ran was originally a kind child from the Xiao family, whose parents were merchants. Before arriving in the Primordial Era, he studied with a private tutor and regularly gave his pocket money to impoverished elderly people. The Magic Mirror later reveals these memories to him. 332

He arrives in the Primordial Era from a future era under circumstances he does not understand. Although he initially suspects the System brought him there, he later concludes that even the System may lack the power to accomplish such a feat. 245

For a thousand years, Xiao Ran waits for the One Yuan Instant Kill System to activate. Once it does, he exchanges a Demon Race crystal core for funds and purchases Pangu Origin Talent for one yuan, beginning the transformation of his talent, bloodline, and standing within the Witch Race. 2 3

Appearance

Xiao Ran is repeatedly described as a young, handsome man whose ordinary attire can obscure the scale of his power. 277 315

  • Maintains a youthful appearance as a cultivator. 276
  • Often dresses simply enough to be mistaken for an ordinary human. 276 277
  • Arrives in the Barbaric World uninjured and well-dressed, unlike its usual arrivals. 315 321

Personality

Xiao Ran is free-spirited, willful, and resistant to being tied down by status or factional responsibilities. He has little interest in ruling the Heavenly Realm or participating in endless power struggles, preferring to wander, cultivate, and intervene only when necessary. 260 262 276 309

Though confident in his power, he is frequently compassionate toward the vulnerable and even toward defeated enemies. He helps civilians, protects refugees, shows empathy toward the grieving Purple Luan Phoenix Spirit Beast, spares the Sea God, and gives the Ghost Demon Cult an opportunity to reform rather than forcing them into service. 291 343 347 350

His maturity develops over time. Formerly mischievous and untrained, he becomes more patient, strategic, and aware that he cannot personally solve every crisis. 263 275 301
