Background / History
Hongjun was originally a Chaos Demon God ranked among the hundred strongest. During Pangu's creation of heaven and earth, he fled into the depths of Chaos and survived by sheltering behind the Jade Disc of Creation rather than fighting alongside the other Chaos Demon Gods. He later abandoned his Chaos body and reincarnated into the Primordial World as a Primordial Demon God. 164
He feared Pangu above all other beings and regarded Pangu's phantom as a possible obstacle to his own path toward Sainthood and merger with the Heavenly Dao. His divination led him to identify the anomaly as a possible “one that escaped” the Heavenly Dao's forty-ninefold derivation. 4
During the Dragon-Han Calamity, Hongjun joined Yang Mei, Five Elements Old Ancestor, Qiankun Old Ancestor, and Yin Yang Old Ancestor in confronting Luohu and the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation. He ordered the others to break the four sword formations, but did not personally attack Luohu; Qiankun and Yin Yang were killed, Yang Mei was gravely wounded and fled, and Hongjun acquired treasures including the Qiankun Cauldron. 144
By exploiting the calamities of the Fierce Beast Clan and the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin clans, then scheming against former allies and rivals, Hongjun amassed a vast treasury and concentrated Primordial fortune around himself. These gains enabled his rise as the sole Sage and supported his long-term ambition to merge with the Heavenly Dao. 194
Appearance
Hongjun is described as an old Daoist with an immortal bearing after merging with the Dao. In combat or while channeling the Heavenly Dao, his eyes become hollow, abyss-like, and devoid of ordinary emotion. 79 220
- Usually maintains an indifferent, composed expression. 94 197
- Manifests overwhelming purple radiance and Dao charm when appearing at Purple Cloud Palace. 176
- His Dao-merged presence is calm and detached even when confronting Xiao Ran. 220 221
Personality
Hongjun presents himself as an impartial Dao Ancestor: he enforces order in Purple Cloud Palace, lectures on the Great Dao to fated beings, appoints leaders for the immortals, and distributes cultivation opportunities. 76 95 97 180
Behind this public image, he is calculating, possessive, and power-driven. He seeks to turn powerful figures—including the Three Pure Ones, the Chaos Four Fiends, and Azure Dragon Ancestor—into tools for maintaining the Heavenly Dao's general trend and suppressing the Witch Race. 176 177 198
His composure can collapse into rage when his schemes fail. Haotian and Yaochi interrupting his Dao merger provokes him into condemning the loss of several primordial eras of effort, while Xiao Ran's plundering of Treasure Distribution Cliff drives him to personally intervene. 198
Abilities & Skills
Heavenly Dao Authority
Hongjun can draw upon and merge with the Heavenly Dao, wielding authority that affects the entire Primordial Era.

Jade Disc of Creation

- Performs heavenly-secret divinations, including tracing Five Elements Old Ancestor's return and the Witch Race's actions. 144
- Cannot penetrate heavenly secrets obscured by the Primordial Chaos Bead and Pangu Realm. 130
- Channels Heavenly Dao power and communicates Hongjun's divine sense to the consciousness of the Heavenly Dao. 177

Dao Lectures and Cultivation Guidance

Formations and Battlefield Strategy
Hongjun favors attrition, battlefield control, and exploiting weaknesses rather than direct clashes with Pangu-based formations.
- He targets weaker Ancestral Witches first before waiting for the Twelve Heavenly God-Fiend Great Array to exhaust itself. 201
- He knows that the array cannot be sustained indefinitely and attempts to outlast it. 201
- He seals Treasure Distribution Cliff with a powerful formation to prevent the Witch Race from competing for its treasures. 206

Story Role / Major Arcs
Sainthood and the Witch–Demon War
Hongjun attains Sainthood during the Witch–Demon conflict, intending to prevent the Demon Race's annihilation. His authority is openly defied by Xiao Ran and the Witch Race, whose connection to Pangu and Buzhou Mountain enables them to resist his pressure. 75
He challenges Pangu's True Body with the Jade Disc of Creation, Pangu Banner, Taiji Diagram, and other supreme treasures. Even with Heavenly Dao support, he struggles against the Heaven-Opening Divine Axe and must rely on the Heavenly Dao's Order Divine Chains. 78
Purple Cloud Palace Sermons
Hongjun establishes Purple Cloud Palace as the central site for Dao instruction, prohibits fighting within the dojo, and lectures on the Great Dao. He later appoints East King Duke and West Queen Mother to assist in managing the Primordial World. 95 97
During his final sermon, he announces plans to accept disciples, rejects the Witch Race, accepts the Three Pure Ones as direct disciples, and grants them Primordial Violet Qi and supreme treasures. He also accepts Jieyin and Zhunti as registered disciples and grants Primordial Violet Qi to Hong Yun. 178 179
Treasure Distribution Cliff Conflict
Hongjun opens Treasure Distribution Cliff to the gathered immortals, ostensibly offering them opportunities. His actual objective is to strengthen and bind powerful figures such as the Three Pure Ones, Zhunti, and Di Jun to his cause. 180 182 198
When Xiao Ran plunders the cliff and the Witch Race overwhelms the other treasure-seekers, Hongjun interrupts his Dao merger and intervenes. He initially gains the upper hand through the Jade Disc of Creation and attrition tactics, but the Twelve Ancestral Witches and Pangu True Body severely injure him, forcing him to concede the looted treasures to the Witch Race. 198 201 204
Merger with the Dao
After recovering in Purple Cloud Palace, Hongjun resumes his long-term Dao merger despite the interruption and loss of Treasure Distribution Cliff's wealth. 212 213
His eventual merger produces auspicious phenomena across the Primordial Era. He immediately travels to Penglai Immortal Island, where Xiao Ran confronts him; their battle threatens the stability of the entire Primordial Era. 220 221
Later Conflicts
Hongjun continues to guide the Heavenly Dao's “general trend” while clashing with Xiao Ran over reincarnation and the right to intervene in the world's affairs. Xiao Ran defeats and humiliates him in a direct confrontation before withdrawing. 227 237
During the prolonged battle between Black Robe Di Jun and Yuanshi Tianzun, Hongjun repeatedly restores the damaged surroundings with purple light, leading onlookers to compare his role to that of a sweeper. 243
