Background / History
Past Life
Wu Dade’s connection to an earlier life emerges during an expedition through the Thorns of Calamity. He witnesses ancient experts sacrificing themselves to preserve a thorny tree and a remaining hope of life. Standing among their shattered divine weapons, he recognizes the scene as possibly belonging to his own past and offers dragon meat in remembrance of his departed companions 509 510.
He cannot fully recall those years: after being pulled from the River of Karma in the Yin Realm, he forgot everything. His emotional familiarity with the ancient dead survives that loss, and later observers identify him as the Barbarian Venerable through his Dao Landscape 510 987.
Becoming Li Fan’s Disciple
Wu Dade first appears in the supplied passages alongside Jiang Li, Huo Ling’er, and Mu Qianning at Li Fan’s courtyard. He becomes visibly nervous under Li Fan’s gaze while Jiang Li kneels to seek instruction in chess 155.
Li Fan accepts Wu Dade by declaring that raising pigs or dogs is no less worthy than music, chess, calligraphy, or painting. He assigns Wu Dade to care for his newly arrived black dog. Wu Dade joyfully accepts, but his confidence falters when the dog reveals its ferocity and contempt for its new handler 160 161.
His cultivation thereafter develops through village food, practical work, and increasingly brutal physical tempering. His later Life Palace is built around these apparently ordinary experiences: raising pigs, keeping dogs, enjoying meals, and drinking with his fellow disciples 161 215 1182.
Appearance
- Stout build: Frequently described as a fatty; at Gold Emperor Mountain, his appearance contrasts sharply with the handsome men seeking selection 238 1153.
- Unassuming bearing: Resembles a butcher who raises pigs rather than an impressive cultivator 1153.
- Golden cultivation light: Emits golden radiance during his regeneration and Divine King breakthrough 654.
- Disguises: Appears beautiful enough to attract Yu Tian’s attention, then approaches Cheng Huan Huan in a handsome disguise 1159 1160.
Personality
Wu Dade is irreverent, provocative, and fond of feigned innocence. He refuses to kneel to Qing Ming Heavenly Lord, taunts the Wood Spirit Imperial Dynasty after rejecting its purchase offer, and pretends to mourn a True God destroyed by his own bow 238 421 476.
His courage is uneven rather than absent. Ghosts and Big Black can frighten him, yet he enters a dangerous sword domain despite warnings and deliberately accepts painful attacks when they can improve his body 161 507 848. Embarrassment at falling behind his fellow disciples can also drive him into harsher training 561.
He struggles with abstract teaching. When Li Fan’s explanation of the Daodejing enlightens the other disciples but leaves him bewildered, he asks for simpler wording and ultimately advances through physical refinement instead 538.
Beneath his comic bluster, he is deeply attached to his master and companions. He mourns his forgotten ancient friends, cries upon returning to Li Fan after a dangerous separation, and finds his life’s meaning in the village rather than status or conquest 510 1167 1182.
Abilities & Skills
Attack-Driven Body Refinement
Wu Dade’s body-refining method converts punishment into growth. Big Black’s repeated biting helps make his body so robust that the disciples doubt even a Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal could injure him 215 220.
- Absorbs enemy attacks to strengthen his physique 220 281.
- Uses massed assaults as training, including bombardment by Qingyun Immortal Kingdom’s army 238.
- Develops exceptional durability in his buttocks because Big Black repeatedly attacks that area 220.
- Limit: Excessive attacks can overwhelm his capacity to absorb them. Qing Ming’s quasi-Primordial chain causes enough pain to make him retreat 220 238.
Nine Revolutions Golden Body
This technique carries Wu Dade through godhood and culminates in regeneration from near-total destruction 493 654.
- Completes the first revolution during his godhood breakthrough 493 503.
- Reaches the fifth revolution by forcing cultivation rules into his flesh and blood with the Molten Gold Ancestor Tree’s thorns 538.
- Completes all nine revolutions after being reduced to a single drop of blood 654.
- At completion, gains enough strength to tear apart a chain of an order cage with his bare hands 654.
Buttocks-Based Combat
Wu Dade turns the strongest part of his body into both shield and weapon 220.
- Crushes an Immortal Lord to death by sitting on him 220.
- Sends a Saint King hundreds of miles away with a seated strike 389.
- Injures an attacking Xuan Yi Sect elder’s foot simply by receiving his kicks 757.
- Uses the same physical advantage to suppress Jin Bifeng 968.
Broadcast Gymnastics
Wu Dade initiates a group gymnastics session in battle, releasing immense Saint Dao potential. The synchronized exercises form a supreme magic formation that overpowers the Nine Stars Killing Array 392.
- Stimulates the Saint Dao source accumulated within his body 392.
- Supports collective breakthroughs among Li Fan’s disciples 392.
- Combines individual cultivation with coordinated group combat 392.
Destructive Worship and Lightning
Wu Dade’s gestures of reverence can become lethal. His apparent worship destroys divine objects and beings rather than protecting them 393 476.
- Uses a dog leash to summon lightning tribulations against a blue-robed Saint Emperor 393.
- Cracks a statue of the Profound Yin True God through disrespect, then destroys it by respectfully asking for a blessing 393.
- Causes Xun Yuan True God to explode with a bow 476.
- Destroys Zhan Bai’s Buddha statue and kills Zhan Bai when he bows 476.
Blood and Poison
Wu Dade’s blood suppresses a Thorn of Calamity after he steps on it, prompting Lu Cailing to question whether he—not Ao Wushuang—is the Peerless Fortune Star 507.
- Uses a potion supplied by Su Baiqian to poison and capture dozens of Hegemons 988.
- Poisons Yu Tian during the Gold Emperor Mountain confrontation 1160.
- During the later dark war, Su Baiqian refines his body into two great elixirs—one medicinal and one poisonous—earning him the feared name Poison Fatty 1253.
Animal Care and Three Fowl and Five Beasts
Wu Dade’s practical expertise includes raising dogs and pigs. He studies Postpartum Care for Sows and is assigned to trim piglets’ teeth so they will not injure their mother while suckling 847 1009.
- Receives Three Fowl and Five Beasts, an animal-based body-refining Chaos Law, from Li Fan 754.
- Undergoes tempering near the village’s Earth Chickens through Phoenix True Fire 755.
- Li Fan encourages him to raise geese to help focus his studies 785.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Dog leash / iron chain — Initially entrusted to him as Big Black’s caretaker. He later takes the chain from the doghouse to retaliate against Qing Ming Heavenly Lord and uses a leash to summon lightning tribulations 161 239 393.
- Melting Gold Tree / Molten Gold Ancestor Tree — A thorn-covered rare plant that grows by consuming metal. Wu Dade uses it for body refinement, wields it against Yin Yang Stone, and takes it with him when the disciples leave the village 517 538 612 1049.
- Limit: While the tree is still a sapling, his cultivation is insufficient to unleash its full power; prolonged hammering removes only a small piece of Yin Yang Stone 612.
- Crystal shard from Li Fan — Glows when an approaching Spirit of Strangeness is connected to the rare plant Wu Dade seeks 502.
- Golden rope borrowed from Ji Qingke — Obtained to bind foreign-race powerhouses and drag them home alive as ingredients for a village feast 340.
- Five stone training rings — Big Black condenses them from a riverbed’s white sand and places them around Wu Dade’s limbs and neck. Their weight initially prevents him from getting up 561.
- Su Baiqian’s potion — Used to incapacitate Hegemons before capturing them 988.
Relationships
- Li Fan — Master and the center of Wu Dade’s village life. Accepts him as a dog caretaker, guides his cultivation, and helps him recognize the emotional foundation of his Life Palace 160 538 1182.
- Big Black / Xiao Huang — Assigned dog, traveling companion, and relentless tormentor. Calls Wu Dade “human pet,” bites him for disrespect, and provides both protection and brutal physical training 161 238 348 561.
- Jiang Li — Fellow disciple who accompanies him on the initial courtyard visit and later explains how his body-refining path can integrate cultivation rules 155 538.
- Qing Chen — Senior brother and frequent expedition companion. Travels with him to seek rare plants and takes an interest in the Nine Revolutions Golden Body 503 744.
- Long Zixuan — Senior brother and combat companion. Wu Dade introduces him as his elder brother under the Great-Devourer Demon Race identity; Long Zixuan later intervenes when a Venerable tries to seize Wu Dade 544 652.
- Dugu Yuqing — Fellow disciple whom Wu Dade accompanies into the Great Wilderness and the dangerous sword domain at Wuji Peak 423 847 848.
- Su Baiqian — Junior sister whom he defends immediately after regenerating into the Divine King realm. Her medicine later supports his poison tactics and continued physical refinement 654 988 1253.
- Mu Wanqing — Wood Spirit Village cultivator whom he allows to follow him. She warns others against provoking him and supports him during the Cold Stone Town market confrontation 413 420 421.
- Devil Fiend — Wishes to see Wu Dade once more before leaving for the Heavenly Abyss 901.
