History

Early life and flight from the Northern Wasteland

Ao Wushuang served as Holy Cloud City’s City Lord and sought a powerful patron after Qing Xuan Immortal City replaced the fallen Xuan Yin Immortal City. During the Saint Dao Era, he offered Holy Cloud City to Devil Bull Clan member Niu Dusheng, earning his survival and protection. 234 272

He encountered the small mountain village during the Northern Wasteland crisis and received two apples from Uncle Zhang, whom he believed to be an unfathomable senior. Ao interpreted Uncle Zhang’s remark that they were “the same kind of people” as a warning not to forget his human identity. 293

After witnessing the Demon Bull Clan’s destruction, Ao fled across the entire Northern Immortal Realm on foot and eventually reached the Central Immortal Realm. His cultivation test shattered the Heavenly Human Clan’s testing stone, leading the clan to recruit him as a peerless genius. 337

Heavenly Human Clan and the “blessed star”

The Heavenly Human Clan later found Ao as the sole survivor of an expedition into the Northern Wasteland. His memories showed him collecting what he believed was Heavenly Wolf divine blood after a terrifying existence destroyed the expedition; the Saint Kings instead praised his survival, perceived loyalty, and supposed recovery of a vital resource. 361

Tian Yuandao and Tian Yuansheng named him a candidate for Quasi-Saint Son. Ao subsequently guided the Saint Clan Allied Army into the Northern Wasteland, but fled once the campaign collapsed and the ancient clans were annihilated. 361 365 371

He briefly attempted to enter the Devil Realm, repeatedly warning Devil Race forces that the Immortal Realm was dangerous while withholding details of the small mountain village. 396 402 404

Fortune Star and demon alliances

Ao later survived the Great Ruin Realm expedition and returned to Fu Tian Sect alone. Sect Master Bai Songming declared him the “Peerless Fortune Star” and selected him as his successor, inventing a heroic account of Ao charging through enemy ranks seven times. 500 502

The Flood Dragon Demon Race captured him as a supposed Fortune Star and intended to use his blood to suppress evil spirit power at Demon Refining Lake. Lu Cailing helped him escape, after which he looted the clan’s medicinal fields before being captured again by True Gods. 504 513

After receiving support from the Heavenly Dog race, including a Seven Revolutions Divine Pill, a Venerable-grade sword, and the Heavenly Dog Howling Moon Art, Ao began building alliances among demon races. He became Holy Son of ten great races and assembled Venerables and Sub-Emperors for an attack on the small mountain village. 641 660

Ao escaped the Lin Family and joined the Gold-devouring Rat clan. While exploring its secret medicinal realm, he consumed divine medicines, discovered a Gate leading toward a supreme opportunity, and rose to the Great Divine King Realm. 700

Tomb expeditions and the Forbidden Explorers

During the Martial Wasteland tomb expedition, Ao discovered that evil spirits reacted to his connection with the small mountain village. One possessing Ximen Xie called him a “great plague” and feared his background; Ao negotiated with multiple spirits and obtained Evil Spirit Bones. 740

A black-robed leader coerced Ao into joining the Forbidden Explorers—whom Ao called the “Death Seekers”—after questioning him about the tomb. His caution and instinct for retreat impressed the organization’s members, who considered him suited to their work. 747 757

Ao became a Forbidden Explorer Envoy under Song Jiyuan after successfully handling a Forbidden Master’s bone. He repeatedly diverted missions into dangerous regions, secretly absorbed the bones’ power through his black tower, and returned the altered remains to the organization. 808 902 945

When Elder Du exposed him as a mole, Ao stopped denying it. He had already gained control of the resurrected Forbidden Master’s body through the modified bones, then used the Forbidden Master as a puppet to control the Forbidden Explorers from the shadows. Song Jiyuan chose to align himself with Ao rather than be treated as his accomplice. 999 1000 1002

Forbidden ancient path and ascension

Following the Gray Mist Sea’s defeat, Ao fled with the Forbidden Master, Song Jiyuan, Hui He, and Changsun Changqing toward the forbidden ancient path. The Void Messenger recognized his Word Spirit technique and identified him as a Reward and Punishment Officer. 1034 1039 1046

In the Land of Source Death, Ao collected and absorbed the life bones of past Forbidden Masters, becoming a Hegemon. The Void Messenger and Forbidden Masters intended to use the resentment of slaughtered worlds to help Ao control reincarnation, while secretly planning to eliminate him afterward. 1050

Ao later entered the taboo world, disguised himself as a Corpse Slave when necessary, and continued fleeing forces connected to the small mountain village. His Dao Landscape absorbed Great Emperor-level powers, imprisoned the Thunder and Water Emperors, and eventually enabled him to devour the Stopper’s Dao and become a Supreme. 1070 1143 1222

After becoming a Supreme, Ao sought to restore the heart ape’s identity. He retraced his past across the Ding Star Realm and other locations connected to her, determined to oppose Darkness even though she continued to regard him as an impure soul. 1234

Appearance

Ao Wushuang is repeatedly described as a middle-aged man, often travel-worn after long flights from danger. Although he considers himself ordinary-looking and worries about his age, he still passed a selection for handsome young men. 337 700 1157

  • Usually dresses plainly while fleeing or hiding.
  • Wore fine brocade and five Holy Son jade pendants while leading the demon-race alliance. 660
  • His unusually powerful legs are conspicuous enough to draw the attention of the Extinguishing Yin Devil Emperor and an evil spirit. 404 740

Personality

Ao Wushuang is defined by extreme survival instinct. He runs from threats before they can fully develop, seeks powerful patrons whenever possible, and treats retreat as a practical skill rather than a disgrace. His instinct often proves correct: he fled the Northern Wasteland, the Great Ruin Realm, deadly tombs, the Forbidden Explorers’ schemes, and the forbidden ancient path’s disasters. 337 513 757 1044

He is opportunistic and resourceful. Ao loots medicinal fields, collects valuable bones, turns unexpected survival into status, and is willing to bluff powerful figures when trapped. His claims sometimes become uncomfortably real through the Word Spirit Technique, such as his accidental discovery of the Land of Source Death. 513 808 1046

Despite his cowardice and self-interest, Ao can be loyal to those he considers companions. He risked himself to save Song Jiyuan from Wu Jianghe and later committed himself to helping the heart ape recover her identity. 998 1234

Abilities & Skills

Nine-story Black Tower

A rusty black tower resides in Ao’s dantian and Dao Landscape. It absorbs Evil Spirit Bones, Forbidden Master bones, true bones, and Dao power, converting them into cultivation and gradually “deifying” its floors. 740 808 945

  • The first floor grants Blessing Enhancement. 860
  • Its second floor contains a chained youth identical to the one sealed on the first floor. 997
  • It suppressed both the Thunder Emperor and Water Emperor inside Ao’s Dao Landscape. 1143
  • It devoured the Stopper’s Dao, allowing Ao to reach the Supreme level. 1222
  • Its contents frighten Ao; he initially avoided opening its floors after seeing the chained youth. 860 997

Heaven’s Blessing Method

Ao obtained the Heaven’s Blessing Method from one of the nine colossal statues in his Dao Landscape. Its first-tower enhancement can improve a blessed person’s comprehension or strengthen an object. 860 997

  • Blessings can enhance a cultivator facing a bottleneck.
  • Blessings can improve the sharpness and durability of weapons.
  • Ao cannot use the enhancement on himself. 860
  • His “blessings” have a notorious tendency to end disastrously for recipients, making Song Jiyuan wary of requesting them. 902 945

Word Spirit Technique

The Word Spirit Technique was obtained from a second statue in Ao’s Dao Landscape. It is recognized by the Forbidden Masters and Void Messenger as an exceptional, karma-linked art. 997 1039 1046

  • Ao uses verbal declarations to influence events and assert authority.
  • He used it to command the Thunder Emperor into obedience. 1123
  • His casual claim about the Land of Source Death unexpectedly revealed a real hidden realm. 1046
  • The technique is not infallible: his declaration that his deception would remain undiscovered failed when Elder Du exposed him. 997 999

Origin Spiritual Powers

Ao possesses several movement- and leg-based Spiritual Powers.

  • Star Chasing Moon Pursuing Peerless Wheels — Two Origin Energy wheels formed beneath his feet; they allowed him to travel more than five hundred thousand miles in an instant. 833
  • Nine Heavens Lightning Triangle Kick — Lightning-based leg Spiritual Power awakened at the Sixth Treasury Realm; strong enough to pulverize an ancient jade that resisted his fist. 860 902
  • Fuyao Great Wind — Combined with his wheels for exceptional long-distance speed across Kaiyuan Continent. 1107 1122

Dao Landscape

Ao’s Dao Landscape is a devastated, desolate world marked by ancient dead vegetation, beast bones, nine colossal statues of himself, and the floating black pagoda. 997

  • It developed boundless earth from village soil and an endless ocean from village water. 1155
  • Its forbidden energy allowed Ao to advance rapidly through the Wind Riding Realm. 1107
  • The Origin Lamp and black tower within it can suppress Great Emperor-level beings. 1143
  • Ao later controlled the Flame of Annihilation within it with the Diviner’s guidance. 1185

Equipment and Items

  • Forbidden Master’s bones — Repeatedly used as fuel for the Nine-story Black Tower before being returned to the Forbidden Explorers. 808 902 997
  • Venerable-grade sword — Gifted by the Heavenly Dog race; capable of carrying him across the starry river. 641
  • Heavenly Dog Howling Moon Art — A treasured technique granted by the Heavenly Dog race. 641
  • Origin Lamp — Carried through his Dao Landscape before being given to Uncle Zhang in fulfillment of the Diviner’s prophecy. 1147
  • Black copper coin / Darkness ancestor token — An artifact that caused War Emperor Mo Zhan to show Ao deference. 1133

Relationships

  • Uncle Zhang — Villager who gave Ao sacred apples during an earlier encounter and later welcomed him back to his ancestral village; Ao gave him the Origin Lamp. 293 1147
  • Lu Cailing — Six-Eared Macaque Race princess who helped Ao escape the Flood Dragon Demon Race and later accompanied him during his return to the Ding Star Realm. 513 561
  • Song Jiyuan — Forbidden Explorer superior turned ally; Ao saved him from Wu Jianghe, and Song later accepted Ao’s control of the Forbidden Explorers. 808 998 1002
  • Forbidden Master Mei Zishang — Resurrected leader whose body Ao controlled through altered bones, forcing him to serve as the organization’s public figurehead. 1002 1034
  • The Diviner — Guide within Ao’s Dao Landscape who helps him control major powers, including the Flame of Annihilation, while urging him to consider his life’s meaning. 1159 1185 1219
  • Thunder Emperor — Ao’s Dark Dao Son and captive subordinate; compelled into obedience through Ao’s power and Word Spirit command. 1123 1143
  • Water Emperor — Initially attempted to dominate Ao’s Dao Landscape but was suppressed by the black tower; later treated Ao as her master. 1143 1155
  • The Stopper — Supreme being whose Dao Ao devoured to become a Supreme himself. 1222 1223
  • The heart ape — A former companion whose identity Ao seeks to restore despite her cold rejection of him. 1234

Trivia

  • Ao personally calls the Forbidden Explorers the “Death Seekers.” 747
  • He gives his techniques deliberately dramatic names, including the Star Chasing Moon Pursuing Peerless Wheels and Nine Heavens Lightning Triangle Kick. 833 860
  • Evil spirits regard Ao as an abnormal “great plague” rather than an ordinary cultivator. 740
  • He once passed a selection for handsome young men despite believing himself too old and ordinary-looking. 1157
