Background / History

Yulian remembers a past life as a Chinese university student who studied magic and physics. After an electrical accident involving a Black Family Tree Study, he awoke in 1980 Bordeaux as the infant Shilam Yulian Black, born into the Black family’s winery estate. For ten years, his unusual knowledge was dismissed as precociousness. 1

At age ten, Leah’s breakup triggers his first magical outburst: pebbles rise into the air, a stone levitates, and water flows backward. His grandfather Alphard Black recognizes the event as accidental magic and reveals the wizarding world and Yulian’s Black heritage. 1 2

Alphard begins privately training him in magical perception, control, basic spells, defensive magic, and Black family history. Yulian also discovers the Magic Resonance Library, a mental library that appeared with his magic; its administrator is a black cat called Murphy. 3
