Background and History

God Realm

The God of Destruction has long opposed Tang San. When Tang San muttered a threat about interfering with his ten-thousand-year plan, Destruction looked back, immediately causing Tang San to conceal his anger and resume a composed façade. 7

His hostility stems partly from Tang San's conduct after ascension: Tang San began treating gods as beings inherently above mortals and consistently opposed Destruction's proposal to expand the God Realm. 128 133 Destruction later used Soul Tool recordings of the first Heavenly Screen to accuse Tang San before the God Realm Committee of secretly manipulating the Son of Destiny's mortal fate. 127

Although initially fixated on expanding the God Realm, he becomes fascinated by the Infinity Gems and recognizes that his former ambitions were narrow compared with their cosmic potential. The Life Goddess persuades him to consider abandoning their divine positions and descending as mortals; together, they discuss approaching Huo Yuhao and even offering Tang San as a gift. 254 257 258

Heavenly Screen Counterpart

The parallel-world God of Destruction sits on a golden throne in the Dark Void and grants a final trial to Xu He/He Caitou after the latter completes eight prior trials. He offers Xu He an army, his golden scepter, and the throne of Douluo Star in exchange for retrieving the Tesseract. 241 242

Known as Thanos, this counterpart gathers the Infinity Gems to impose his version of universal balance. He believes that eliminating half of all life will reduce the universe's burden, delay its destruction, and spare civilizations from the Planet Devourer Austin Griffin. 281

After repeatedly clashing with Huo Yuhao, Thanos completes the Infinity Gauntlet and snaps his fingers, annihilating all life in the universe except Huo Yuhao. He ultimately cannot overcome Huo Yuhao's resolve and golden inner sunlight; Huo Yuhao survives, wins the final battle, and uses the Gauntlet to restore the dead and the universe. 316 318

Thanos is cold, controlled, and intensely ideological. He frames mass death as benevolence and regards opponents as shortsighted obstacles to cosmic balance. 281 282 He is also manipulative, targeting Kaecilius's grief by offering to resurrect Kaecilius's wife and daughter in exchange for the Time Gem. 296

Even when severely wounded, Thanos refuses to abandon his doctrine. He continues fighting Huo Yuhao while insisting that his actions are selfless and necessary for the universe's survival. 318
