On the sea at midnight, pale moonlight shone into the wooden barrel, making the bones inside look even more ghastly.

The dark sockets of the skull stared straight at Ling Chu. At first glance, the sight was rather unsettling.

Ling Chu had always been brave. She merely raised an eyebrow.

It was only a skeleton. It might not have beaten her when it was alive, so there was even less to fear now that it was dead.

She reached in and fished out the dripping pirate hat.

Not bad. It was a higher grade than the Shark Tooth Dagger someone had shown off in the Public Chat Channel. Ling Chu checked the gun and ring next.

[A common revolver. Years of immersion have rusted its barrel, throwing off its aim.]

The revolver was the same grade as the pirate hat, and both needed repairs before she could use them. Ling Chu glanced at the ring. The next instant, it held her attention.

Ling Chu held her breath in excitement. Another piece of Legendary equipment!

She had no idea what the Ghost Pirate profession could do, but anything Legendary was bound to be powerful. The ring also came with a thousand storage slots. Her raft had only ten.

As for the so-called curse, it might as well not exist.

In this survival game full of danger, she had no idea how many days she would live. Who cared whether her soul could rest after death?

She slipped on the ring without hesitation.

As the system's voice faded, a wooden box marked with a question mark appeared out of nowhere and landed on the raft.

Ling Chu did not check the reward. She was too delighted by what she had found.

Ghostly Steps was an excellent lifesaving Teleport Skill, while Bone Revival was so powerful it seemed broken. It could actually bring bones back to life.

Did that mean that if she gathered enough bones, she could build a skeleton army of her own?

Speaking of bones...

Ling Chu looked at the skeleton in the wine barrel. There was one ready-made set right there.

She tried to use Bone Revival.

Ling Chu paused. Magic Energy?

She had read plenty of wish-fulfillment novels in college. Magic Energy sounded something like mana. She searched the System Panel twice before finding her character attributes in a corner.

After reading the panel, Ling Chu understood. Her Magic Energy depended on Intelligence. She would have to find a way to raise it to ten.

She checked the pirate hat and revolver next. Repairing the hat required a tailor and five pieces of cloth. Repairing the gun required a blacksmith and two pieces of iron ore, and firing it would require ammunition. Neither would be of use for now.

Ling Chu stuffed her resources into the Ring of Undead Bones, instantly clearing space on the crowded raft. The wine barrel and skeleton were in her way, so she tried putting them in the ring too.

The next moment, a black eyepatch fell off.

Ling Chu picked it up in surprise. She had nearly missed the fact that the eyepatch on the skull was equipment too.

That was a useful ability. Ling Chu put it on at once.

The black fabric blocked her left eye, restricting her vision. It felt strange, but then she spotted an option to hide the eyepatch in the system interface. When she selected it, the eyepatch vanished from sight, and she could see through her left eye again.

That feature was excellent. Otherwise, wearing an eyepatch all day would be like writing I'm a pirate across her face.

The Lucky Frozen Octopus Fishing Rod, the Ring of Undead Bones, and now this eyepatch. Only one day into the game, she already had three pieces of equipment of Unique quality or higher. Equipment of those grades was one of a kind, which meant she was the only player on the server who had them.

Her Luck value was hidden on the character panel, but Ling Chu was certain it was high.

While her luck was holding, she opened the System Blind Box.

Without anything to compare it to, Ling Chu could not tell whether that was a lucky haul. The items were certainly useful, though.

The telescope and sun-protective clothing were valuable at sea. Better yet, she now had the freshwater she needed most. Ten coconuts would give her enough to drink for three or four days.

The Fisherman's Happy Folding Set contained a parasol, a folding chair, a small folding table, a fish basket, and a landing net.

Her four-square-meter raft had just enough room for the unfolded chair and little table. At least she would not have to sleep on the wooden planks tonight.

Everyone could post ten messages a day in the Public Channel. More than that required a megaphone. Ling Chu did not much like chatting in the Public Chat Channel, so those were the least useful items.

That left the Mysterious Fruit.
