Background

Ling Chu begins her survival journey alone on a raft. In a wine barrel, she discovers the remains and equipment of Captain Teach, including a legendary ring that grants her the Ghost Pirate profession. Rather than fearing the skeleton, she treats its equipment and bones as useful resources. 3

After raising her Intelligence to 10 with a Mysterious Fruit, Ling Chu uses Bone Revival to resurrect the skeleton Tichy, who becomes her first loyal Skeleton Henchman. She immediately puts him to work mining, scouting, maintaining crops, and managing fishing nets. 8 9 20

She later becomes the first player to hold both Ghost Pirate and Bounty Hunter professions. This allows her to earn from killing ordinary players as a pirate and from killing wanted players as a bounty hunter, a combination she considers advantageous for pursuing both “righteous” and “unrighteous” paths. 7

Ling Chu upgrades her raft into a Ghost Pirate vessel and eventually establishes the Ghost Ship as an increasingly large, undead-crewed flagship. She initially prefers independence, relying on Skeleton Henchmen rather than recruiting players, but gradually accepts trusted companions into her crew. 33 69 89 322

Her strength later grows beyond simple survival at sea. She aids in the defense of Bright City against Graf Adrian, establishes Hope Island as a refuge and base for allied players, and continues investigating the world’s origins and the whereabouts of Lucas. 406 433 475 528

Appearance

Ling Chu is a tall young woman, stated to be at least 1.75 meters in height. She commonly dresses for combat and survival rather than appearance, combining practical armor, weapons, and numerous magical accessories. 80 201

  • Wears Captain Teach's black monocle eyepatch, usually set to an invisible mode so it does not obstruct her vision. 3
  • Uses shark leather armor in battle. 201
  • Carries the Oath of the Wind Whisperer shortbow and keeps bladed weapons at her waist. 201
  • Wears a Mermaid necklace, Ring of Undead Bones, Ninja Belt, and the Sea Monster Leader's Legendary loincloth. 201
  • Her fast movement and hooded combat attire have been compared to a ghost walking through mist. 135
  • Later wears the Myriad Bones Amulet, a polished bone accessory that resembles old jade rather than an obvious undead artifact. 686

Personality

Ling Chu is bold, practical, and difficult to intimidate. She reacts to a skeleton on her raft with curiosity rather than panic, and she consistently evaluates people, equipment, and situations according to their usefulness and danger. 3 9

She strongly values autonomy. Ling Chu prefers to make final decisions herself, dislikes having her judgment swayed by others, and insists on remaining the sole captain when considering partnerships. 62 Her refusal of Black Spade K's recruitment offer—unless she became captain and renamed the vessel the Ghost Ship—reflects this independence. 83

Though publicly known as a ruthless pirate, Ling Chu follows personal principles. She does not rob uninvolved, vulnerable players merely for profit and refuses to exploit a Calamity by monopolizing necessities and reselling them at extreme prices. 139 180 Conversely, she is merciless toward hostile pirates, ambushers, and enemies who threaten her crew. 133 138 633

As captain, she rewards useful allies, distributes equipment according to her crewmates' needs, and invests in the long-term development of her crew and Skeleton Henchmen. 139 217 539

Ling Chu is also capable of restraint when violence would damage an important relationship. During the conflict with Babu Guanguan, she avoids immediately escalating to a fight to the death, recognizing both the accidental nature of the dispute and her friendship with Babu Youyou. 643

Her confidence can come across as arrogance to hostile factions. She refuses Smiley's proposed alliance with the Circus, maintaining that prospective allies must meet her own standards. 537
