Konoha's Wariness

Fugaku Uchiha was utterly baffled by his clan head's intentions. The clan head had acted strangely today.

After all, he had earned the favor of the Second Hokage, the Third Hokage, and even the entire Konoha High Command. He had also won the support of many members of the Uchiha Clan. How could he have performed so poorly?

At the very least, his conduct today had been completely at odds with his position. What clan head acted so timidly?

Even if the Uchiha Clan was wary of the Konoha High Command, surely they weren't that intimidated. This was practically groveling before Konoha. No wonder Chen had looked so baffled.

"Clan Head..." Fugaku Uchiha began softly. He found Kagami's behavior incomprehensible and didn't know how to ask Kagami Uchiha about it.

Kagami didn't answer Fugaku. Only after Chen had walked out of the clan compound, step by step, did he relax. He let out a soft sigh, then turned and gazed deeply at Fugaku Uchiha. There was a hint of disappointment in his eyes as he looked at Fugaku and asked quietly, "Don't you understand yet?"

"Hm?" Fugaku Uchiha was confused. "Understand what?"

"Honestly..." Kagami shook his head. "I wonder if handing you the position of clan head was the right choice. You can stay calm and analyze the big picture, so why do you have no political sense when it comes to this?"

As she treated the two men, Mikoto Uchiha covered her mouth and giggled at Kagami scolding her husband. Her husband was wonderful in every way, except for one thing: whenever something involved his own people, he became rather slow on the uptake. The problem was obvious to anyone, but her husband hadn't seen it at all.
