History
Founding and early development
Konohagakure was founded when Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha ended the long conflict between the Senju and Uchiha clans and established a joint village. The Uchiha became one of Konoha's most powerful founding clans; many served in the Konoha Military Police Force, an institution attributed to an Uchiha ancestor. 1
Senju Tobirama later founded the Ninja Academy during wartime to standardize shinobi education and maintain reliable combat strength. 4
After the Nine-Tails' attack, the Fourth Hokage died sealing the beast into the newborn Naruto Uzumaki, forcing the retired Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, to resume office. In the aftermath, Konoha's leadership suspected the Uchiha Clan because the Sharingan was believed capable of controlling the Nine-Tails; the clan was relocated to a remote corner of the village and increasingly marginalized. 2 9
Uchiha crisis
The Uchiha Clan eventually planned a rebellion after years of political pressure and surveillance. Itachi Uchiha entered the Anbu as part of the clan's plans, then became a double agent under pressure from Konoha's leadership. 9
Years later, Uchiha Chen publicly condemned Konoha for isolating the Uchiha, restricting its political standing, and pushing the clan toward a coup. His accusations shocked many ordinary Konoha ninja, while Tsunade believed much of his account but refused to publicly concede it during the crisis. 188
Konoha Crush and recovery
Konoha hosted the Chunin Exams for shinobi from smaller villages and for Sunagakure genin, whose village had lost the right to host its own exams after the Third Shinobi World War. 24
The exams became the cover for Orochimaru's Sound-Sand invasion. Sand and Sound forces entered the village while Orochimaru confronted the Third Hokage. Konoha's Anbu and clan forces counterattacked throughout the village, with the Nara, Yamanaka, and Akimichi clans using their hereditary techniques to repel the invaders. 26 30
Following the invasion and the Third Hokage's death, Konoha sought Tsunade as its Fifth Hokage. She later asserted her authority against advisors Homura and Koharu when they attempted to dictate how Sasuke and Chen should be classified and pursued. 35 78
Chen and Sasuke's assault
Uchiha Chen and Sasuke later returned with Hawk Team to attack Konoha. Chen controlled the Nine-Tails, but initially ordered his forces not to target civilians, stating that his grievance was not with the villagers. 181 183
During the attack, the Nine-Tails destroyed the Hokage's office and Hokage Rock with a Tailed Beast Bomb. Chen's forces killed Danzō and several senior figures, while Tsunade exhausted herself protecting the village and fell unconscious. 188 220 231
Konoha was left heavily damaged, with major landmarks and many buildings reduced to rubble. Shikaku Nara convened the clan heads and elite jonin, who selected Hatake Kakashi as acting Hokage; he immediately began reconstruction, recalled shinobi, and reinforced the village's defenses. 230 231 232
Allied Shinobi Forces and dissolution
Kakashi represented Konoha at the Five Kage Summit, where he proposed a Shinobi Alliance against Akatsuki and Uchiha Chen. 262 264
After Tsunade recovered, she resumed the Hokage position as the Five Great Nations prepared for the Fourth Great Shinobi War. Konoha contributed personnel to the combined Allied Shinobi Forces, whose units were organized across village lines according to combat specialties. 302 304
Following the eventual unification of the Shinobi World into the nation of Shinobi, all shinobi villages—including Konoha—were disbanded. Their military authority was consolidated into a state Military Department. 747
Parallel-world Konoha
In the parallel world encountered by Chen, Tobirama survived the war with Kinkaku and Ginkaku and greatly strengthened Konoha after returning home. His trust in Kagami Uchiha helped bring the Uchiha Clan back toward the village's political center. 542
This Konoha selected Hiruzen as Hokage through a high-level vote, with Danzō supporting him rather than competing for the office. Chen noted that Danzō was remembered there as a kind man, sharply contrasting with the Danzō of Chen's original world. 542
During the Third Shinobi World War, this Konoha was exceptionally powerful, fielding figures such as Tobirama, Hiruzen, Hatake Sakumo, the Sannin, Kagami, Danzō, and emerging shinobi including Minato and the Ino-Shika-Cho generation. 609
Governance and institutions
| Institution | Role |
|---|---|

| Elder Council | A political body created to prevent Hokage autocracy, but one that grew increasingly self-interested and obstructive in the parallel-world timeline. 579 |

| Konoha Military Police Force | A police and security body historically associated with the Uchiha Clan. 1 |

| Root | A clandestine underground organization led by Danzō. Its members were directly controlled by him and bore Curse Marks. 2 191 |
Military capabilities
- Konoha can mobilize Anbu, elite jonin, and major clans in large-scale defense operations. During the Sound-Sand invasion, its clans fought across the village while civilians were moved into shelters. 30
- The Nara, Yamanaka, and Akimichi clans jointly employed Shadow techniques, mind techniques, and Expansion Jutsu during Konoha's counterattack. 30
- Konoha's shinobi are regarded as among the strongest in the world due to their combat experience, perception, and battlefield adaptability. 687
- The village's medical and reconstruction capacity allowed it to rebuild the Hokage's office and Hokage Rock shortly after Chen's assault, despite extensive damage. 232
- In the parallel timeline, Konoha's military strength was considered great enough that no single village would dare attack it alone. 609
Political tensions
Uchiha Clan
- The Uchiha Clan co-founded Konoha and remained one of its foremost clans, but distrust intensified after the Nine-Tails incident. 1 9
- In the original timeline, Konoha's treatment of the Uchiha culminated in the clan's attempted coup and massacre. Chen and Sasuke later attacked the village in retribution. 9 188
- In the parallel world, Kagami Uchiha improved the clan's standing and relationship with Konoha, though the leadership still feared the political consequences of the Uchiha becoming too powerful. 542 660
Uchiha Chen
- Konoha initially treated Chen as a survivor of the Uchiha massacre who had become a fool, only to later identify him as the figure behind the destruction of the Star Hidden Village and threats against Sunagakure. 130
- After Chen's attack on Kumogakure, Tsunade ordered Konoha shinobi to avoid fighting him and abandon missions if necessary to prevent casualties. 152
- In the parallel world, Konoha attempted to recruit Chen through accommodation and education for his disciples. Tobirama agreed that Chen would reside in Konoha and assist the village when needed, while his daughters attended the Ninja Academy. 646 648
- The parallel-world Elder Council later attempted to turn Chen into a controlled weapon, a proposal opposed by Hiruzen and Danzō as dangerously unrealistic. 579
