"A bunch of old foxes." Uchiha Chen let out a cold snort, a trace of disdain flashing in the corner of his eye. One side wanted to win him over with this sort of trick, while the other was doing everything it could to distance itself from him. Did they think he was some object to toss back and forth?
"Sooner or later, I'll deal with every last one of you." Chen fell silent and kept walking.
But just then, he suddenly felt a bad premonition.
"What's going on?" He sensed that something was faintly amiss. Chen furrowed his brow slightly, stopped in his tracks, and slowly closed his eyes. Though Uchiha Chen made no move, he was already on guard.
"Is this a genjutsu?" Chen wondered.
At that moment, the entire street had become deserted. The usually bustling central street was completely empty—not a single person in sight. Even the two people who had been stationed outside the Uchiha compound had vanished.
Wasn't that enough to make the problem obvious?
The instant Chen closed his eyes, a kunai shot out from the shadows, flying straight toward the middle of Uchiha Chen's back.
Yet Uchiha Chen seemed to be asleep, completely unaware of the danger approaching.
In the blink of an eye, the sharp kunai struck Chen in the back and pierced straight through his chest. It continued on without slowing, embedding itself several centimeters into the wall opposite.
Beneath his mask, the shadowy attacker's lips curled into a slight smile. He had expected the target of this mission to be difficult, but it turned out Chen had been dealt with all too easily.
Just as he was about to stand and signal his teammates to wrap things up, he suddenly sensed that something was wrong. There wasn't a trace
