At Last, They Met

Kakashi, Sakura, and the others were reluctant to speak. They were mindful of the Fourth Hokage's feelings for Jiraiya, and even more so of the First Hokage and Second Hokage's dignity.

If they found out that the Konohagakure they had built and taken such pride in had been destroyed single-handedly, it would be humiliating for those still alive. The First Hokage and the others might even feel disappointed.

"It's... it's nothing..." Kakashi forced a smile and tried to laugh it off in front of them. He shot Sakura and Rock Lee a look, signaling them not to say anything.

They could tell Kakashi and the others were hiding something from them. Though they wanted to know what it was, Kakashi refused to say, and there was nothing they could do. They couldn't order him to talk just because Chiyo was there as Hokage, could they? Perhaps Kakashi had some personal grudge with those few people?
