Background / History

The Yang Family began as a rural household in Yang Family Village. Its original home expanded from three tiled rooms as the family’s children grew, but the household was initially not especially prosperous. Its early life was closely tied to farming, hunting, and kinship with nearby families such as the Jiangs. 51 56

Yang Zhengshan’s reconciliation with his elder brother, clan chief Yang Zhengxiang, returned his branch to the Yang Clan’s upper ranks. This reconciliation established the family’s later pattern of combining household interests with the wider Yang Clan’s development. 57

The family’s rapid rise began through Yang Zhengshan’s military achievements, martial strength, wealth, and political connections. By the time of Yang Yunxue’s proposed marriage into Marquis Changping Mansion, the Yang Family had emerged as a young but highly promising Chongshan Town power with capable descendants and comparatively few outside entanglements. 258 294

After Yang Zhengshan’s enfeoffment as Marquis of Jing'an, the family’s influence expanded beyond Chongshan Town. It developed Star Moon Island as an escape route and long-term base, relocated dependents and affiliated households there, and eventually occupied the Shenmu Seven Islands. 484 609 692

The family later supported two separate dynastic lines: Yang Chengyou founded the Dajing Dynasty in former Taluo territory, while Yang Chengye founded Great An. Yang Zhengshan deliberately maintained a boundary between the Yang Family and Great An’s government: the family could supervise or depose an incapable emperor, but was not to interfere directly in court politics. 694 735 830

As its population and allied network grew, the family relocated large numbers of descendants, disciples, and affiliated households into the Spirit Spring Space. Yang Zhengshan renamed this domain Spirit Source Land, established the Lingyuan Yang Clan, and later restructured it as White Jade Capital. 756 759 894

Organization

Leadership and branches

  • Yang Zhengshan — Family Head and later Old Ancestor of the Yang Family; founder of the Lingyuan Yang Clan and ruler of White Jade Capital. 759
  • Yu QingyiYang Zhengshan’s wife and the family’s matriarch; she represents the household in major marriage negotiations and supports the clan’s cultivation development. 906 1144
  • Four principal Yang Family branches — Descended from Yang Mingcheng, Yang Mingzhi, Yang Minghao, and Yang Mingzhao. 756
  • External succession lines — Yang Chengye’s line remained connected to Great An, Yang Chengyou’s line to Dajing, and Yang Chengxian’s line was retained to manage Shenmu Island. 756

Clan Council

The Clan Council represents the interests of the Yang branches and affiliated families. It studies major affairs and holds voting rights on major decisions. Entry is based on loyalty and contribution rather than strength alone; betrayal results in expulsion and may result in execution. 756

Its original membership included:

  • Four Yang Family branches.
  • Six Yang Clan branches led by Yang Chengze, Yang Mingwu, Yang Mingzhen, Yang Chengxu, Yang Chengche, and Yang Qinwu.
  • Sixteen affiliated families represented by figures including Jiang He, Wang Mingzhe, Lin Zhan, Ding Qiu, Wu Zhan, Luo Jinsong, Luo Shang, Zhen Yang Shi, Xie Yuan, Han Cheng, Yu Tonghai, Xue Ping, and Zhang Yuanwu. 756

The Council expanded as families such as the Song, Zhou, Qu, An, and Liang families migrated into Spirit Source Land. 759

Elder Council

The Elder Council is the clan’s highest martial-force institution. Yang Zhengshan initially withheld concrete powers from it, intending for it to restrain a future family head only after his own death. 756

White Jade Capital

White Jade Capital is the evolved form of Spirit Source Land. Its governance uses the Five Cities and Twelve Towers system, with Yang Chengmou appointed Lord of Ziwei Tower. 894

Although founded and ruled by the Yang Family, its residents are taught that the polity is not merely the Yang Family: it is White Jade Capital, with laws, institutions, and an identity encompassing incoming families and cultivators. 1159

Family Rules and Customs

  • Men may take a concubine only after reaching thirty years of age and having no son. 162
  • Women are expected to marry after reaching sixteen years of age. 162
  • The concubinage restriction remained binding even after Yang Chengyou became king; Yang Zhengshan emphasized that the family’s foundation was the Yang Family rather than any dynasty. 692
  • Spirit Source Land enforces family division: married descendants establish independent households rather than remaining in large, cohesive family blocs. 826
  • The family does not encourage inherited family power among incoming residents; major families are gradually dispersed into smaller households to preserve equal status and prevent factional rivalry. 1118
  • The Yang Family’s male generational sequence is Ming, Cheng, Qin, Ji, Zong, Qing, Shang; its female sequence is Yun, Wan, Ruo, Qing, Yu, Chu, Xiao. 1133

Military and Cultivation Foundations

Yang Family Spear Technique

The Yang Family Spear Technique is the family’s standard introductory martial art, even after it acquired other cultivation methods. 162

  • Emphasizes expending force in a single decisive strike.
  • Its basic form seeks to kill with one blow rather than preserve reserves.
  • Upon entering the Postnatal Realm, its use of strength qi becomes continuous and enduring while retaining its fierce character. 508

Spirit Spring Water

Spirit Spring Water is a major source of the family’s martial development.

  • Yang Zhengshan used it to accelerate martial training and regarded it as capable of producing enormous numbers of Martial Artists given enough time and supply. 162
  • It was distributed selectively to family members, guards, affiliated forces, and strategically important settlements. 633
  • Fair allocation of resources, rather than personal affection alone, is presented as a cornerstone of the family’s internal cohesion. 709

Jade Capital Three Guards

The Jade Capital Three Guards are White Jade Capital’s elite military force.

  • Equipped with spirit-weapon-grade bows, arrows, armor, and weapons. 969 975
  • Organized around spearmen, shield-bearers, and archers. 975
  • Uses coordinated formations and concentrated arrow fire to defeat cultivators whose individual cultivation exceeds that of ordinary soldiers. 969
  • Retains the Yang Family’s military traditions in training, reconnaissance, mapping, and command structure. 980

Immortal Cultivation

The family broadened from Martial Dao cultivation into immortal cultivation after Yang Zhengshan acquired the Azure Wood Longevity Scripture and related methods. 801 809

  • The Azure Wood Technique, the first volume of the Azure Wood Longevity Scripture, was promoted across Spirit Source Land. 829
  • Yang Jizhen became the second known Spirit Aperture Child in Spirit Source Land and later its second Foundation Establishment cultivator. 829 935
  • The family trains disciples in alchemy, artifact refining, talismans, formations, spirit plants, beast taming, and other immortal arts. 874
  • By the later period, more than twenty Yang Family descendants had become immortal cultivators. 1133

Relationships

  • Yang Clan — The wider clan from Yang Family Village; Yang Zhengshan’s branch reconciled with clan chief Yang Zhengxiang and became part of its upper ranks. 57
  • Lingxi Yang Family — A declining Yang branch at Lingxi Mountain. Yang Zhengshan took over its leadership, preserved its inheritance, and later elevated it into the Twelve Great Clans. 772 773 894
  • Jiang Family — Early in-law family through Yang Yunyan and Jiang He; one of the Yang Family’s five earliest in-law families. 56 695
  • Wang, Li, Liang, and Lu Families — Early marriage families with longstanding places in the Yang Family’s network and later settlements on Shenmu Island. 695 756
  • Luo Family — Longstanding merchant partner and affiliated family. Luo Shang followed Yang Zhengshan for nearly forty years and received a Clan Council seat based on loyalty and contribution. 249 756
  • Zhu Family — The Yang Family’s most important ally in the southeastern seas; their alliance was strengthened through shared interests and marriage. 675
  • Tenglong Guard families — The Xie, Han, Wu, Yu, Xue, and Zhang families formed a bloc attached to the Yang Family and controlled the Four Tenglong Guards. 633
  • Huanyue Sect — Supported the Lingyuan Yang Family’s replacement of the Lian Family among the Twelve Great Clans. 896
  • Hidden Sword Mountain — Accepted the Yang Family’s submission and authorized it to replace Wuxiang Sect as one of the Lingxiu Three Sects. 974
  • Luo, Wen, Shen, and Mu Families — Immortal-cultivation families recruited into Spirit Source Land; they sought integration through discipleship and marriage ties with Yang descendants. 1128 1129
