Old Zhang's throat felt tight as he watched the crowd surround Feng Dengfeng. He had stayed out of it from beginning to end.
That was in keeping with his usual caution. The others hadn't forced him to join in, either. Old Tan, standing nearby, had clearly noticed something was off with Old Zhang. Seeing him glance over repeatedly with a strange look in his eyes, Old Tan grinned. "Brother, what are you looking at?"
"Nothing. I'm just curious. Hasn't Feng Dengfeng always had high standards when recruiting his men? How come they're all the likes of you?"
Old Tan's face darkened. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Old Zhang had the numbers on his side, so he naturally wasn't afraid of a traitor. He sneered. "Selling out your master for glory, and too afraid to die. Should I make it any clearer?"
Old Tan's expression grew even uglier. "I'm Lord Tree Ancestor's agent. I'm loyal only to Lord Tree Ancestor. Anyone who betrays Lord Tree Ancestor is my enemy. What, are you sticking up for that traitor Feng Dengfeng? Now I see why you're not helping. You're the one with something to hide!"
