Background / History

The Bizarre Tree is one of twenty-eight Trees of Life distributed across Gaia. These Underground Race entities are intended to alter the surface environment until it can sustain a large-scale Underground Race return; theoretically, their roots could eventually intertwine across the planet. 924

In Star City, the tree concealed itself behind a forest of enormous sentient plants. Its flesh-colored roots extended underground in dense, active networks, while spiritual-energy channels drew the emerald-green Source of Life from spirit species across a wide area. The Old Banyan Tree of Yangfan Middle School was among the beings whose independent Spiritual Sense and Source of Life were targeted. 719

The Star City tree expanded through human agents and transformed victims. It planted marks in survivors, intending to turn them into pawns, bizarre species, or spiritual-energy sources capable of establishing new strongholds. Its influence also reached surrounding ornamental plants, which became hostile and helped lure victims into its territory. 720 835

As humanity uncovered its methods, the Bizarre Tree's networks suffered repeated setbacks. It lost agents, placed bounties on Jiang Yue and other opponents, and increasingly relied on coercion, deceptive substitutes, and forced enhancement of reserve agents. 837 911 1132

A fully evolved Bizarre Tree in the Western Frontier Military Region demonstrated the threat posed by mature specimens. It established strongholds, root-linked formations, Tree Demons, and structures bearing Underground Race runes. Human forces ultimately dismantled its formations, damaged its roots, and defeated it after cornering its weakened main body. 1000 1126 1141 1143

The Star City Bizarre Tree later resurfaced through Xie Chun and other agents around Mount Dajin. Once its Underground Race affiliation and formation network were exposed, survivor bases began expelling its followers, leaving it isolated and vulnerable. 1287 1308 1374 1424

Appearance

The Bizarre Tree's visible surface body can resemble an immense tree whose layered branches, dense leaves, and canopy cover an area comparable to a small county town. This form is deceptive: its true territorial reach and primary strength lie in its subterranean root system. 1014

  • Its underground roots are immense emerald-green structures, sometimes compared to walls or colossal sea creatures moving through soil. 1003 1010
  • Early roots were flesh-colored, elastic, and tentacle-like rather than resembling ordinary plant roots. 719
  • Its surface territory contains giant awakened trees that act as conscious guards. 719
  • It can manifest a humanoid proxy known as the Wizard, a clone-like embodiment carrying its will. 1094
  • Its captured substitute resembled an oversized ginseng-like plant with tendrils, a wood aura, and powerful life force. 1135 1137

Personality

The Bizarre Tree is calculating, territorial, and intensely survival-oriented. It prefers manipulation, infiltration, expansion, and proxy warfare to direct confrontation; when personally threatened, it habitually retreats through the underground rather than risk a costly battle. 720 1132

It rules its agents through fear and reward. It grants powers and resources to useful followers, but treats them as expendable tools, punishes failure brutally, and will kill or transform subordinates to intimidate others. 837 841 1133

Even after losing its formations and most of its forces, it refuses to surrender. Its later strategies centered on false captures, controlled captives, ambushes, and attempts to deceive the Human Faction into lowering its guard. 1132 1134 1141

Abilities & Skills

Root Network and Plant Dominion

The Bizarre Tree's roots are its true foundation. They spread deep underground, nourish abnormal vegetation, control nearby plants, and provide the basis for its territorial expansion. 1003 1014

  • Roots can move underground and relocate when targeted by bombardment. 998 1009
  • It manipulates soil to compress, entrap, or crush intruders underground. 1010
  • Its roots control vegetation across its territory, including trees, vines, and plant-based traps. 720 1014
  • It possesses at least eight main roots and hundreds of secondary roots in its mature Western Frontier form. 1012 1141
  • Destroying roots weakens its control over surface vegetation and disrupts its absorption of spiritual energy. 998 1101

Source of Life Absorption and Purification

The Bizarre Tree evolves by plundering spiritual energy and life essence from spirit species, spirit plants, spiritual items, and Awakeners. 719 841

  • It can overwrite a spirit being's independent Spiritual Sense before taking its Source of Life. 719
  • It uses plants, tendrils, fruits, and roots to remove impurities from surface-origin spiritual energy. 841
  • Giant fruits and transformed plant structures can serve as purification tools and traps for potential energy sources. 835 841
  • Its inability to naturally endure surface-world impurities slows its evolution. 841

Agent Marks and Transformation

The Bizarre Tree can mark humans and turn them into controlled agents, spiritual-energy sources, or new bizarre life forms. 835 1134

  • Marks can remain dormant in victims and activate after they return to survivor bases. 835
  • Controlled humans may be transformed into plant-like creatures or used to lure additional Awakeners into traps. 835
  • It can rapidly enhance agents and create berserk warriors by expending its own spiritual energy. 1132 1133
  • Maintaining control has a cost, consuming the tree's life essence, energy, and spirit. 841
  • Holy Light Defense can resist mark implantation and counter its dark-element control methods. 1134

Absolute Life Domain

The Bizarre Tree can establish an oppressive life domain that restrains targets with tendrils and invasive energy. 1141

  • The domain can immobilize dozens of Awakeners and bind them with tendrils. 1141
  • Its power exceeds the Wizard's version of the same domain. 1141
  • Its effectiveness declines sharply without formation support and sufficient spiritual energy. 1132
  • Holy Light Blessing can negate or severely reduce its restraining effects. 1132 1141

Absolute Heavenly Vision Domain

The Bizarre Tree uses the Absolute Heavenly Vision Domain to observe its territory and identify intruders. 1132 1133

  • It monitored Human Faction movements inside Kan Gate and prepared an ambush when their formation broke apart. 1132 1133
  • The Wizard's related Heavenly Vision Domain failed to expose a disguised human infiltrator using Replication. 1094

Regeneration and Resilience

The Bizarre Tree possesses exceptional restorative ability. Damage that would destroy ordinary plants can be rapidly repaired. 720 734

  • A severed body can reattach itself “like a blob of slime” after being cut apart. 734
  • Roots regenerate rapidly and can retreat underground before sustained fire attacks reach them. 720
  • Repeated root injuries, however, weaken its main body and reduce its ability to sustain formations and domains. 1126 1143

Humanoid Manifestation

The Wizard is a humanoid manifestation of the Bizarre Tree rather than an ordinary agent. 1094

  • The Wizard carries a fusion of its own self-awareness, the Bizarre Tree's will, and Underground Race consciousness. 1094
  • It can act independently on the surface, recruit agents, establish formations, and coordinate territorial expansion. 1354
  • The Wizard is significantly weaker than the tree's peak main body. 1145

Weaknesses

  • Fire — The Bizarre Tree and its tendrils fear fire; coordinated fire-attribute attacks successfully wounded and forced it to retreat. 841 998 1011
  • Surface-world impurities — It must purify spiritual energy before absorption because surface impurities pollute and hinder it. 841
  • Holy Light — Light-element defenses and blessings naturally counter its dark-element domains, marks, and evil spells. 1132 1134
  • Root dependence — Its main roots supply its territorial control, spiritual-energy absorption, and connection to surface structures. 998 1009
  • Formation dependence — Destroying its formations cuts off energy supply, weakens its domains, and restricts its access to the underground core. 1132
  • High energy expenditure — Powerful techniques, agent control, and forced growth all consume substantial spiritual energy. 841 1132

Relationships

  • Jiang Yue — Primary human adversary. Jiang Yue repeatedly exposed its schemes, damaged its roots, disrupted its strongholds, and led the operation that cornered its weakened main body. 719 1003 1141
  • Old Banyan Tree — Spirit-species victim whose Source of Life was seized after the Bizarre Tree attempted to overwrite its independent consciousness. 719
  • Wizard — Humanoid manifestation and clone-like proxy carrying the Bizarre Tree's will. 1094
  • Tong Jiangnan — Formerly one of its most trusted top agents; his death provoked the Bizarre Tree into ordering Jiang Yue's elimination. 911
  • Mr. Binghai — Powerful controlled agent who privately resisted being treated as a disposable tool. 841
  • Mr. Qingming — Its most trusted known agent, favored above Binghai. 841
  • Xie Chun — Later agent who received direct guidance from the Tree Ancestor during operations around Mount Dajin. 1308
  • Underground Race — The Bizarre Tree serves the wider Underground Race objective of reclaiming the surface world. 910 924

Story Role / Major Arcs

Star City Emergence

Jiang Yue discovered the Bizarre Tree's guarded territory in Star City and infiltrated beneath its sentient forest. He identified its Source of Life network, attacked its roots with a sword pellet and Flame Talismans, and watched it regenerate before escaping underground. 719 720

Wumei Community Conspiracy

The Bizarre Tree trapped survivors inside giant fruits, manipulated marks within their bodies, and planned to convert them into new bizarre species and energy sources. Its agent network met to replace fallen leaders, issue bounties, and investigate Star City's survivor bases. 834 835 837

Exposure of Its Limitations

Information from former agents revealed that the Bizarre Tree paid a price to control followers, feared fire, and struggled to adapt to the surface world. Tong Jiangnan later revealed that it was one of twenty-eight Trees of Life serving the Underground Race. 841 910

Western Frontier Campaign

A mature Bizarre Tree expanded through Yangcun Town Stronghold, Tree Demons, root veins, formations, and a possible Underground Race passage. Jiang Yue's forces used bombardment, fire attacks, underground pursuit, and targeted root strikes to disrupt its territory. 945 1009 1011 1012

Kan Gate Deception and Defeat

After its formations were destroyed, the Bizarre Tree attempted to fake its own capture, turn captives into agents, and ambush advancing humans with its Absolute Life Domain. Jiang Yue and Li Yue blocked its escape routes, while their team slowed and exhausted its roots until the weakened tree was defeated. 1135 1137 1141 1143

Mount Dajin Resurgence

The Star City Bizarre Tree reappeared through Xie Chun's faction and sought to influence the Mount Dajin conflict. Its affiliated bases began collapsing after the authorities exposed its Underground Race connections and demanded the surrender of its agents. 1308 1374 1424
