Enveloped in golden light, Chen Lin felt his body tighten. The next instant, he appeared inside a dim room.
He immediately took out the Xuanwu Shield and swiftly scanned his surroundings.
Then his gaze settled opposite him, where an emaciated monk sat cross-legged with his palms pressed together, utterly motionless. Whether he was alive or dead was impossible to tell.
But when Chen Lin saw the monk's face, his expression changed drastically!
Nian Kong!
This monk was actually Nian Kong!
Deeply shocked, Chen Lin immediately channeled his primordial spirit power, enveloping himself in the Xuanwu phantom as he slowly backed away.
This monk had once left him an inheritance and should, by all rights, have been his benefactor. Yet encountering him time and again in different Demon-Suppressing Temples inspired no sense of closeness in Chen Lin, only profound wariness.
His appearance in the Nightmare Realm could still be explained, however tenuously, as a projection. But how could his presence here be explained?
Was it merely a resemblance, a clone, or something else?
After a while, Chen Lin noticed that the monk's eyes remained closed. He seemed to have stopped breathing.
After a moment's hesitation, he cautiously released a strand of divine sense.
Only after sensing no vitality or divine soul fluctuations from the monk did he breathe a small sigh of relief.
Whatever the reason, a dead man should pose no danger.
Even so, Chen Lin did not act rashly. Instead, he backed away again until he was almost against the wall, then carefully examined the room.
Soon, his brows furrowed.
The room had neither doors nor windows, nor any Teleportation Formation or unusual features. Apart from the monk Nian Kong, there was nothing at all!
Moreover, so much time had passed, yet Grass still had not followed him here.
