Grass develops through innate sword power rather than ordinary mana cultivation. Combat comparisons below are not necessarily formal cultivation ranks.

Background / History

Grass was born as innate sword grass beside the Chaos Thunder Pond, possessing Innate Thunderbolt Sword Will. Hua Ruyu treated her as a sister and brought her into the human world 1324.

When a powerful man hunted Hua Ruyu, Grass willingly arranged to be fused into his treasure so that she could eventually kill him. The man was Li Yuanlei, the Annihilation Immortal King and master of Primal Thunder Mountain. When Hua Ruyu attacked his sect and became cornered, Grass detonated her innate origin to break the treasure apart. She subsequently awoke in Wanhuagu Valley without her memories 1324. She had served as the Sword Spirit of the Primal Thunder Annihilation Sword 1683.

Her earliest surviving memories were of life as a blade of grass in the valley, where stronger plants and insects deprived her of energy. Chen Lin freed her, gave her the name Grass, and took her into reality. Only much later did she recover her original identity and recognize Hua Ruyu as Bei Wumeng, leader of the Hongming Cult 467 468 1324.

Appearance

• Initial human form: Appears about sixteen or seventeen, with a skinny, scrawny body and an unremarkable face. This describes her apparent age, not her actual lifespan 467.
• Build: Petite and slender enough to fit inside a living-creature pouch with room remaining 490.
• Plant form: A blade or stalk of grass. Severe exhaustion leaves her leaves withered; recovery restores their color, vitality, and glow 602 890.
• After the century-long dormancy: Her skin becomes lustrous like jade, and her body is sturdier than before 890.
• Spiritual manifestation: Can reproduce her former appearance without bodily warmth or genuine flesh and blood 1324.
• Later changes: Returns with a fuller figure after resurrection. Refining a life-force river with Chen Lin’s assistance later makes her body fuller and her skin more delicate 1681 2490.

Personality

Grass initially fears being abandoned for lacking usefulness. She is timid, obedient, and quick to blame herself when practice goes wrong. Chen Lin’s reassurance gives her a purpose: becoming strong enough to protect him 467 468 469.

Her reserve toward others contrasts sharply with her devotion to Chen Lin. Early on, she neither socializes with his household nor follows anyone else’s instructions without his authorization. As her sword power grows, she develops understated confidence and takes quiet pride in earning his praise 473 985 1878.

Her emotional range gradually broadens. She becomes shy about their intimacy, playful in private, affectionate toward selected companions, and maternal toward Chen Tao. Chen Lin welcomes these changes because he wants her to live as a person rather than merely as a sword 919 1335 1444 1882.

Despite her lethal abilities and self-described slaughter destiny, Grass does not enjoy killing. She wants a peaceful life beside Chen Lin. Her willingness to sacrifice herself remains a recurring danger, and Chen Lin considers her lack of battlefield strategy a weakness against more calculating enemies 1681 1883 1886 2327.

Innate Sword Body and Sword Will

Grass’s original nature is innate sword grass possessing Innate Thunderbolt Sword Will, rather than an ordinary human sword cultivator 1323 1324.

• Releases exceptionally sharp sword qi capable of cutting spiritual tools and potentially damaging dharmic treasures 469.
• Her internal power rejects foreign mana and spiritual energy, preventing ordinary cultivation methods and pill-assisted cultivation from working 469.

Thunder Affinity and Treasure Refinement

Grass’s connection to the Chaos Thunder Pond gives her unusual insight into thunder spirits and innate treasures 1764 1765.

• Detects, destroys, and devours a thunder spirit to strengthen herself 1764.
• Protects Chen Lin as they move deeper into increasingly violent lightning 1764.
• Identifies the Crimson Moon Scimitar as high-grade innate material and proposes cleansing it with origin thunderbolts to create a soul-bound treasure 1764.

• Merges with the Thunder God Sword to create an Exterminating Sword manifestation, restrain the Gourmet Guardian, and destroy him 1047.
• Identifies the Burning Passion Sword Formula as a method through which her feelings for Chen Lin could unleash tremendous power if he sacrificed her. Chen Lin refuses to accept that solution 1886.

Nightmare Realm Contract and Spiritual Existence

Grass is recognized by the Nightmare Realm as Chen Lin’s contracted creature 487.

• Can normally be summoned into the Nightmare Realm across planes and accompany Chen Lin back into his current plane 487.
• Shares a special mental connection with him, allowing recognition despite changes to his appearance and close coordination in battle 890 1030.
• Summoning is not absolute: the Giant Pillar Formation prevents Chen Lin from bringing her inside despite their contract remaining intact 1011 1025.
• Her original flesh-and-blood transformation depends on Nightmare Realm rules. Reconstructing her shape outside those rules does not automatically restore a living body 1324.
• Explains that solidifying her spiritual body would require at least ten innate plants, while fully turning her spirit into a physical body would also require the Thunder God Sword’s main body 1334.

• Chen Lin — Master, protector, and eventual husband. Their relationship develops from enforced service and mentorship into an intimate partnership; he publicly introduces her as his wife. Repeated losses make her increasingly central to his life 467 469 890 1330 1635.
• Hua Ruyu / Bei Wumeng — Former sister figure who brought her into the human world. Grass sacrificed her innate origin to save her, but after recovering her memories says she no longer owes her anything and considers Chen Lin’s kindness the only genuine kindness she received 1324.
• Li Yuanlei — Former enemy and owner of the treasure into which Grass deliberately allowed herself to be fused. Her past as his sword spirit lets her confidently distinguish him from Li Xiangru 1324 1683.
• Blind Girl / Wuxin — A rare cherished friend. Grass repeatedly asks after her and urges Chen Lin to try summoning her in the Outer World; she identifies her as another follower of Bei Wumeng 1324 1681.

• Chen Tao / Taobao — The girl born from the Princess’s Peach Treasure calls Grass “Mommy.” Grass names her and takes a nurturing role in her upbringing 1444.

• Wish Noodles: Chen Lin’s wish to restore her original state fails, but a narrower wish to awaken her succeeds. She communicates weakly from within the sword 1147.

Lost Origin and Resurrection

Thunder Pond and Sword Realm

• Chaos Thunder Pond: Advises Chen Lin on refining the Crimson Moon Scimitar, protects him through the lightning, and helps him absorb the Pond’s origin energy. When an unknown Nightmare Realm force takes him away, she is ejected into the void and cannot follow 1764 1767 1768.
• Sword Lake: Joins Chen Lin in the Sword Realm, becomes a White-Clothed Swordsman, and catches treasures immediately after his prolonged failure to fish anything up 1804 1805 1806.
• Sword Woman’s instruction: Remains behind for guidance and returns at late True Realm strength. Later instruction contributes to another major breakthrough 1808 1878 1959.
