• Its geography is not uniformly continuous. The Demon-Suppressing Temple stands alone amid dense Nightmare Qi, while other scenarios contain lakes, mountains, oceans, settlements, or entire kingdoms 280 362 446 1441.
• Boundaries often override physical movement. Temple walls, sealed courtyards, and Road Guide Barriers can prevent climbing, flight, or passage despite an explorer’s strength 280 839 1157.
• Communication is automatically translated. Visitors from different realms understand one another’s speech. Written material obtained in a scenario becomes readable to its finder if successfully brought out, although some exceptional writing remains untranslated 459 751 1187.
• Shared entry does not guarantee a shared encounter. People entering the same scenario at the same time may not meet, and different visitors can experience different events 874 1968.

Projection and Mirror Images

The term projection covers two distinct processes:

• According to Princess Gege Yun, periodic Great Projections originally extracted part of the “spirit” of beings across the realms to prevent them from exceeding their planes’ cultivation limits 1538.
• She states that the rules later changed, causing these projected spirits to become bizarre creatures 1538.
• Mirror-image fusion does not guarantee immunity to every Medium Object: a bronze mirror forcibly draws Chen Lin into a scenario even after his fusion with Nian Kong 1769.

Entry, Travel, and Departure

Entry Methods

• Ordinary Medium Objects can often be resisted by Nascent Soul, Spirit Transformation, and stronger cultivators, but unusually powerful objects remain dangerous 940 1769.
• Most tested objects can be contained with Sealing Talismans. Niuniu’s Cloth Doll remains hazardous even inside a stone coffin and sealing array 426.
• A Medium Object can stop working if its scenario becomes inaccessible; Chen Lin encounters this with the Pig-Headed Monster scenario 825.
• Higher-level reality realms can obstruct access to lower-level scenarios. Entry from the Immortal Realm generally requires a particularly powerful medium, a special scenario, or a Silver Scenario 942.
• Chen Lin later finds the Primal Domain Barrier blocking several Lower Primal Domain scenarios 1401.

Physical Entry and Projection

Road Guides

Road Guides regulate movement for visitors and Nightmare Realm creatures; even Niuniu is subject to their restrictions 473.

• A stronger identity does not necessarily bypass a Road Guide Barrier: Chen Lin’s Bailiff status fails to do so in Bluestone Street 1157.
• Medium Objects ordinarily cannot be used to switch scenarios while already inside the Nightmare Realm 777.
• Individual appointments may grant valuable travel access without being transferable. Zhu Sankui’s Appointment Document cannot be used by Chen Lin 878.

Departure Missions

• Projection visitors may need to discover and complete a hidden task before returning safely. Expulsion without completing it can mean death 636 878.
• Departure penalties are triggered upon return to the Reality Realm; reaching a fiefdom instead could provide refuge, but some scenarios prevent the Peerage Token from connecting to it 1995.
• Tasks can be mundane: counting meadow birds after a slab changes color, buying a specified herb, or laughing three times at a valley entrance 776 1441 1709.
• Requirements can also be lethal. Myriad Clans City requires Duan Shengping to defend the Grand Arena three times, despite his having witnessed a late Semi-Void cultivator die in one blow 1307.
• Previously completed missions can change. Kannie is punished after the Myriad Realms Alliance’s departure mission is altered 1026.
• True Peerage can provide exemptions: Changqing Prefecture’s advisor tells Chen Lin that he need not complete its resident task to move freely 1441.

Scenario Tiers

• A Medium Object’s aura range provides some indication of its connected scenario’s level, but does not fully explain its dangers 426.
• The upper limit of scenario strength is unknown. Some scenarios can suppress beings from the Upper Seven Realms 1990.
• A colored-scenario Spirit Planter Token appears capable of drawing Chen Lin into a region beyond the Cage Array without a Colored Road Guide 1672.

Nightmare Qi and Suppression

Nightmare Transformation

• Nightmare Qi erodes living beings and objects, potentially changing their bodies, nature, or function 304 751 1170.
• Direct exposure is not the only cause: powerful creatures and scenario rules can inflict transformations on otherwise resistant cultivators 569 636.
• Transformation is not uniformly mindless. Chen Lin becomes a Pig-Headed Monster while retaining his judgment, and Xu Daoling becomes partly a nightmare creature with sealed memories 636 1295.
• Restoration is possible in some cases. A crystal reverses part of Silver Fairy’s altered body, and Kannie reports having seen another mutated person recover 460 778.
• Removing Nightmare Qi does not necessarily restore the body. Chen Lin’s White Jade Palm cleanses Silver Fairy’s qi without undoing her transformation 447.

• Chen Lin’s soul secret arts and innate power resist these restrictions unusually well 1170.

Nightmare Law and the Controller

• Xiong Ziqi initially describes the realm as having no ruler, only Guardians who erase beings capable of breaking Nightmare Law 845.

Items and Export Restrictions

• Ordinary outsiders can learn them. Silver-tier scenarios sell spells for 100,000 Nightmare Coins with a permit 1302.
• Comprehension relies heavily on intuition rather than ordinary formulas. Chen Lin’s Silence inheritance presents a crucial sensation he initially cannot remember after each demonstration 1297 1306.

Accounts of Its Origin

The realm’s history is revealed through several sources, some explicitly presenting theories or hearsay.

The Red-Haired Mouse believes the Nightmare King and Punishment Monarch Yun Feiyu perished together, after which the Moqigan Clan obtained the Seal and other relics. Chen Lin connects these claims to the Star Emperor’s inheritance and the Seal’s activation during his conflict with High Person Yunhai 2221.

The Nightmare King’s fate remains disputed. Niuniu says he may still be alive, although resurrection would not restore his former identity. Xiao He later states that his Title has disappeared from the Divine Altar and that his fiefdom has lost its former divine power 2310 2407.

Grand Projection and Later Instability

• Warnings of upheaval include closing businesses and predictions that official status or peerage may become necessary for continued access 1005.
• The Grand Projection is described as self-correction that creates, repairs, or removes scenarios and their flaws 1157.
