During the Journey to the West, Lingji Bodhisattva had obeyed Tathagata's decree to capture the Yellow Wind Monster. Tathagata had bestowed upon him a Flying Dragon Staff and a Wind-Calming Pill.
The former could transform into an eight-clawed golden dragon and had been used up while helping Wukong pass through Yellow Wind Ridge. The latter was meant to counter the Samadhi Divine Wind, but had not been used at the time.
It was not until the third attempt to obtain the Palm-leaf Fan, when Sun Wukong was blown by Princess Iron Fan's fan to Mount Sumeru Minor, that Lingji Bodhisattva gave this remaining Wind-Calming Pill to Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong put the Wind-Calming Pill in his mouth and inadvertently swallowed it. His "five organs became firm, his skin and bones became solid," and when the Bull Demon King later tried to fan him again with the Palm-leaf Fan, he could no longer be moved.
So here was the question: why was there another Wind-Calming Pill in this illusion when the original one had already been swallowed by Sun Wukong?
