Poison Run Amok
In the blink of an eye, three days had passed.
Since Heaven Dou Royal Academy was still in its enrollment period and had not officially begun classes, Chen Ming spent most of those three days immersed in the academy's Mimicry Training Ground, honing his Soul Power. In his occasional free time, he wandered around the academy, taking in its various grounds and facilities.
Whether Chen Ming's earlier words had worked, or whether the Education Committee Members and other higher-ups could no longer stand the chaos, the noble youths who had originally blocked the entrance to the Mimicry Training Ground no longer continued their blockade over the past few days. No one came to ask Chen Ming for help pursuing Dugu Yan, either.
However, from Chen Ming's observations during his cultivation these past few days, Dugu Yan had also developed the habit of bringing food into the mimicry environment to eat. Sometimes, while eating, she would suddenly become emotionally agitated.
Chen Ming guessed that there was a ninety percent chance those people outside had not given up. If Dugu Yan showed up in places like the cafeteria, they would probably bother her to death.
That day, Chen Ming was cultivating as usual in the Mimicry Training Ground. With the flaw in his Innate Soul Power repaired and his Martial Soul having evolved further, his Soul Power accumulated at an extremely rapid pace.
Although he had only recently reached level twenty-three by absorbing a Thousand Year Soul Ring and an External Soul Bone, after cultivating for some time, Chen Ming once again felt as though he was nearing another breakthrough. Thus, he had been putting even more effort into cultivating his Soul Power these past few days.
A steady rain fell outside the Mimicry Training Ground. Though the interior remained the same as usual, Chen Ming could clearly sense the yin energy between heaven and earth growing stronger as he cultivated.
To Chen Ming, this was merely an ordinary change in the weather and had no effect on his cultivation, so he paid it little mind and continued cultivating normally.
However, for the other person in the cave, this weather was extremely unfriendly.
While Chen Ming was cultivating as usual, Dugu Yan, not far from him, suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood. It was as if someone had struck her hard with a palm. She was forcibly jolted out of cultivation and collapsed stiffly to the ground. Her aura withered, cold sweat beaded on her skin, and her body convulsed involuntarily.
"Ugh..."
Curled up on the ground, Dugu Yan felt needle-like pain shooting through every part of her body. The Soul Power within her ran wild and leaked in every direction, while her meridians gradually began to feel as though they were being torn apart by the chaotic impacts. Her blood and qi churned violently. Her limbs felt as though they had fallen into an ice pit, while her chest and abdomen burned as if they had been thrown into blazing fire.
If I'd known this would happen, I shouldn't have forced myself to break through to level thirty Soul Power...
Dugu Yan convulsed and twitched uncontrollably on the ground. Tears and snot streamed down her face amid the agony, soaking her cheeks and the floor. She was filled with regret.
Recently, Dugu Yan had felt herself nearing level thirty, so she had hurried to cultivate her Soul Power. Though this kind of weather always made her body ache for various reasons, she still chose to cultivate diligently, both to give her grandfather a surprise when he returned and to get away from those annoying pests.
Yet when she truly came close to breaking through today, the pain in her body caused her Soul Power to lose control at the crucial moment, crashing wildly through her meridians. Not only did her original pain erupt with twelvefold intensity, but her meridians and internal organs were injured as well. In an instant, she fell into excruciating agony.
Dugu Yan rolled wildly across the ground, producing a series of thuds that jolted Chen Ming out of his cultivation.
Seeing Dugu Yan twitching and rolling across the floor as if she had gone mad, Chen Ming was first stunned. Then he understood. The poison within Dugu Yan's body had acted up.
Although he did not know how Dugu Yan had gotten herself into such a half-dead state, after some consideration, Chen Ming decided to act.
Originally, he had planned to use the poison as an opening after drawing closer to her, then scheme for the Immortal Herbs within the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. But faced with this sudden situation, Chen Ming felt that if he stood by and watched, Dugu Bo would probably make his death inevitable when he returned.
He calmed the Soul Power within his body, rose to his feet, and leaped in front of Dugu Yan. He pinned the constantly rolling Dugu Yan to the ground and slowly injected his Soul Power into her body.
Normally, a poison-type Soul Master's Soul Power should contain potent poison. However, thanks to the passive properties of the Poison Cloud Technique and the byproducts of developing his cheat ability over the years, Chen Ming could make his Soul Power pure and dense when necessary, without its usual toxins.
As his Soul Power entered her body, Chen Ming could not help but be startled by Dugu Yan's condition.
A Soul Master failing to break through and suffering backlash was no small matter to begin with. Dugu Yan's backlash had also stirred up the poison in her body, worsening her already serious injuries. Her condition was utterly terrible.
Her blood and qi churned, her Soul Power was in disarray, her internal organs were injured, and her meridians were damaged. Aside from the flesh and skin on the surface appearing normal, everything else about her body was a mess.
To stabilize Dugu Yan's injuries, Chen Ming chose to first calm the Soul Power inside her. However, due to the intense pain, Dugu Yan was completely incapable of thinking clearly. Even with Chen Ming pinning her down, she struggled desperately, making it entirely unsuitable for him to carefully guide her Soul Power.
Chen Ming did not bother with anything else. He directly summoned his Martial Soul, lightly pricked Dugu Yan with his tail, and injected paralyzing poison into her.
Though Dugu Yan herself possessed considerable poison resistance, Chen Ming's paralyzing poison was a compound toxin formulated with reference to dozens of Soul Beasts. Its effects were exceptionally potent. Even after some of it was resisted, the remainder quickly took effect in Dugu Yan's body.
Dugu Yan only felt a slight numbness before her body rapidly slipped beyond her control.
Under the effects of the paralyzing poison, Dugu Yan's condition did not improve, but the pain she felt eased considerably. She gradually regained some ability to think.
Yet when she saw Chen Ming pressing her to the ground, a look of struggle instinctively rose in Dugu Yan's eyes.
"Why are you still thinking dirty thoughts at a time like this? Hurry up and focus. I'm helping you regulate the Soul Power in your body! Don't waste time and turn yourself into a cripple!"
Sensing Dugu Yan's gaze, Chen Ming snapped irritably.
Although Dugu Yan did have an excellent figure, and her position pinned to the ground along with the struggle in her eyes was rather alluring, Chen Ming was not about to think about such things at a critical moment like this.
