Nature and Function

A Martial Soul is the manifested foundation of a Soul Master. It produces Soul Power, determines the basis of a Soul Master's physical reinforcement and combat path, and governs how Soul Rings can develop into Soul Skills. Soul Rings themselves are described as manifestations of Soul Beasts' souls. 157

A Martial Soul's quality strongly affects its owner's potential, but it is not the sole determinant of achievement. Innate Soul Power, physical condition, Soul Ring compatibility, cultivation, and the user's understanding all affect later growth. 3 19 270

Awakening

Martial Souls are awakened through a dedicated formation. The formation's light enters the recipient's body and triggers a physical or spiritual manifestation of their inherited Martial Soul. 1 2

After awakening, Innate Soul Power is measured with a crystal ball. A child with sufficient Innate Soul Power can begin cultivating as a Soul Master. 1

• Physical manifestation — Beast Martial Souls may alter the user's body during possession, such as growing animal traits, carapace, claws, or tails. 1 2
• Innate Soul Power — Determines the starting Soul Power available after awakening; the Chen Family's Jade Scorpion lineage normally awakens around levels two to three, while Chen Ming's level five was considered exceptional in Biluo City. 3
• Inherited traits — Martial Souls are tied to family bloodlines, though dormant bloodlines from either parent may affect what a child awakens. 398

Classification

Beast Martial Souls

Beast Martial Souls manifest animal characteristics and commonly allow Martial Soul Possession, strengthening the user's body with traits of the represented creature.

• Jade Scorpion / Jade Scorpion King — A poison-attribute Beast Martial Soul whose possession manifests jade-green carapace, reinforced arms, and a scorpion tail. 2 19
• Leopard Cat — A Beast Martial Soul that produces feline ears and is considered capable of supporting Soul Master cultivation despite its comparatively low quality. 1

Artifact Martial Souls

Artifact Martial Souls manifest as objects rather than living creatures. Their abilities and development can be highly specialized.

• Rock Vine — Yan Jun's vine-type Martial Soul. 1
• Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda — A stable support-type Martial Soul with seven fixed slots; its powerful support nature also restricts its upper developmental limit. 159
• Dragon Ascending Sword — A divine-artifact-grade Second Martial Soul that became a separate body capable of changing form. 275

Spirit System Martial Souls

Spirit System Martial Souls specialize in Spiritual Power. Meng Shenji's Black Demon allows him to use Spiritual Power for scouting and probing others. 19

Hybrid and Variable Martial Souls

Some Martial Souls do not remain within a single category.

• Jade Beast — Initially resembles an ordinary gemstone-type Artifact Martial Soul. Its First Soul Ring determines both its developmental tendency and beast-like form; animal-type rings can grant Beast Martial Soul traits and Martial Soul Possession. 139
• Irreversible ring influence — Each acquired Soul Ring alters a Martial Soul. In highly ring-dependent Martial Souls such as Jade Beast, these accumulated changes can obscure the original Martial Soul's nature. 141

Quality, Mutation, and Evolution

Martial Soul quality ranges from weak or degraded inheritances to top-tier, super, and God-Tier forms. Higher quality generally provides stronger attributes, better combat potential, and greater compatibility with powerful Soul Rings. 19 108 361

Soul Rings provide Soul Power and enable Soul Skills, but the abilities gained are shaped by the Martial Soul rather than copied wholesale from the Soul Beast.

• A Martial Soul tends to develop skills aligned with its own traits; a support Martial Soul absorbing a strength-oriented Soul Beast may gain enhancement effects rather than the beast's natural offensive abilities. 159
• Soul Ring compatibility can make an absorbed ring easier to integrate. Chen Ming's Jade Scorpion Martial Soul strongly resonated with a Jade Scorpion Soul Ring of the same origin. 14
• Powerful or unusual rings can alter a Martial Soul's attributes and quality, as the Underworld Scorpion's ring added death attributes to Chen Ming's poison-based Martial Soul. 95

Innate Soul Power and Limitations

Innate Soul Power is closely associated with a Martial Soul's initial potential, though the relationship is not absolute.

• The Chen Family's Jade Scorpion was high-quality and poison-oriented, yet its hereditary decline caused many descendants to awaken little or no Soul Power. 3
• Forced evolution may consume potential that would otherwise manifest as Innate Soul Power; Chen Ming's unusually high innate level was attributed to Martial Soul evolution consuming part of his original potential. 7
• Some Martial Souls possess inherent structural limits. The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda's seven-slot structure grants exceptional stability and support ability but restricts its natural upper limit. 159

Chen Ming's research treats Martial Souls as systems that can be studied, guided, repaired, and in limited cases reshaped.

• He created a semi-independent scorpion-like life form from Soul Power, Life Force, Spiritual Power, and his own spirituality, demonstrating that Soul Power can be endowed with spirit. 156 157
