Clan swordswoman

Kasumi is introduced as Elder Hanahai’s daughter and an exceptional Uchiha swordswoman. Although many clansmen pursue her, none attract her attention; her interests center on swordsmanship and finding opponents capable of challenging her 80 81.

After Mikoto awakens her Sharingan, Kasumi encounters her practicing during a family visit. Impressed by Mikoto’s determination, she provides several months of instruction, becoming what the narrative calls her “half-teacher” 83.

Clan-meeting challenge

Kasumi challenges Qingguang at a clan gathering because she hopes he can provide the sword fight she cannot find elsewhere in the clan. She leads the frontal attack while other Uchiha exploit openings, combining flaming sword strikes with shadow clones to restrict his movement 81.

Qingguang counters their attacks with multiple fighting styles before revealing Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence, binding his opponents and draining their chakra. Rather than being discouraged by the difficult fight, Kasumi becomes increasingly exhilarated despite her injuries 81.

Second Shinobi World War

Kasumi accompanies Qingguang to the western front as part of the Uchiha reinforcement force. While receiving treatment for a forearm wound, she questions Tsunade about the war and emphasizes that the clan has committed 45 jōnin under Qingguang. Tsunade’s guilt and evasiveness intrigue her, and she remains nearby to observe what happens after leaving the medical tent 84 85 86.

She joins Qingguang and Tsunade’s mission to protect Nawaki, killing an Amegakure patrol and later fighting Chiyo. After Chiyo steals her sword, Kasumi retrieves it and severely burns Chiyo’s right arm with an expanding ring of flame 89 90 91.

When Hanzō singles her out over Chiyo’s injury, Qingguang prevents her from drawing her sword and accepts the challenge in her place. Kasumi urges the others to trust him, but her conviction becomes dangerous when she obstructs Tsunade’s attempt to intervene and threatens anyone who interferes 100 103.

While accompanying Qingguang during the Joint Chūnin Exams, Kasumi investigates the Dragon Vein with him. Initially skeptical of its alleged time-travel properties, she is transported with him to a future Rōran 140 141.

There they encounter an alternate-future Kasumi, who recognizes Qingguang and immediately embraces him. This older Kasumi has lost her own Qingguang and hopes to spare her younger counterpart the same suffering. Shisui accompanies her and addresses her as his mother 141.

The future Kasumi uses Mangekyō Sharingan and a third-stage Susanoo against Anrokuzan. After Qingguang explains that the Dragon Vein is replenishing the enemy, she stops wasting chakra and helps her younger self evacuate civilians 142.

Disruption of the Infinite Tsukuyomi

During Nagato’s activation of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Kasumi unleashes Demonic Sword: Slash through her Susanoo. The attack topples the kilometer-high giant tree and disrupts the technique. Her attraction to Qingguang begins with admiration for his swordsmanship and strength. After his confrontation with Hanzō, it develops into an overwhelming attachment to him as a person.
