Background / History

Kazhan was the young chieftain of the Redstone Tribe during the Sandfolk leadership's debate over war with the Earthlings. Disillusioned by the chieftains' eagerness for conflict and the Great Elder's approval of the war proposal, he initially considered leaving with his people. Great Elder Hessen instead entrusted him with leading talented Sandfolk youths to study in the Alliance, believing the coming war would become a “meat grinder” and that the Sandfolk's future had to survive it. 37

Before departing, Kazhan prepared his tribe for a future shaped by firearms and broader intertribal cooperation. He trained in War Chariot operation, shooting, and Alliance language, while considering how his selected young elites could form a mercenary force under Wind Fist if necessary. 44

His plans were interrupted when the White Thorn Tribe attacked the Sea God Highland artillery position. Kazhan mobilized the Redstone Tribe's people to respond, but the struggle at Alchi Heights ultimately cost him his wife Shaxue and his mentor Hessen. He attempted to escape through the inland sea with the healer Mi Xun. 44 53

After Mi Xun was killed in a gunfire ambush, Kazhan survived through his Guardian-enhanced durability and completed his first evolution into a Heavy Infantry. He nearly escaped Alchi Heights with extraordinary speed, but was wounded and confronted by Commonwealth Warrant Officer Yu Lian, who recognized him as a future threat and offered him a warrior's death. 54

Kazhan later became the central figure of a renewed Sandfolk uprising. His forces successfully overthrew Earthling and Imperial rule, establishing the first independent nation on the New Continent, though the state endured only a few years. Kazhan was subsequently killed in a rebellion influenced by powerful foreign forces. 861

Appearance

Kazhan is a young Sandfolk man with protective scales. Under the exertion of his psionic abilities, his scales take on a deeper metallic hue. 54

He is devoted to his family, tribe, and the future of the Sandfolk. Even while preparing to leave for study abroad, he worries about the safety of his wife, children, and tribe, and works to ensure his people's young fighters have a future beyond local tribal conflict. 44

In defeat, Kazhan remains resilient. The loss of Mi Xun initially drives him into despair, but he turns that despair into resolve, refusing to surrender while he is still alive. Yu Lian notes that, despite being a Heavy Infantry, Kazhan retains composure and even a sense of humor. 54
