That surprised Batman.
Few people in Gotham could withstand his attacks.
After all, many of Gotham's supercriminals weren't known for their strength. Even Penguin couldn't last more than a few moves against Batman.
"With abilities like yours, why join a gang?"
Batman stopped and didn't attack again.
He analyzed the situation. Li Ang had no combat skills, but his sheer strength alone made him difficult to deal with.
Li Ang's strengths were his speed, his power, and his ability to withstand pain.
He seemed almost inhuman.
When he saw Batman staring coldly at him, Li Ang immediately said, "Shit, I'm not one of her people!"
"But you work for the Iceberg Lounge."
Batman spoke.
He knew very well that Li Ang wasn't with the Falcone family.
"I'm just trying to survive. Not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their mouth."
Li Ang replied coolly.
He'd been dragged into a fight for no reason. Even if his opponent was Batman, Li Ang wasn't about to be friendly.
"GCPD!"
At that moment, sirens finally sounded outside.
Gotham's officers had arrived even later than Batman.
But that was normal.
Li Ang turned around, only to find that Batman had disappeared without him noticing.
The officers opened every passageway to air out the building, and the smoke finally cleared. Only then could they see what had happened inside.
The Iceberg Lounge had been battered almost beyond recognition. Bullet holes and blood were everywhere, and many people had died.
James Gordon said grimly, "Those damn gangs are the rot at the heart of Gotham."
Then they immediately began securing the scene.
With so many dead, someone had to answer for it.
Before long, Penguin arrived too.
"Jim!"
Penguin spread his arms toward Commissioner Gordon and called out warmly.
But Commissioner Gordon didn't even look at him. He merely snorted. "Oz, did you do this?"
"How can you accuse an innocent man?"
Penguin Cobblepot put on a wounded expression. "The Iceberg Lounge has always been a legitimate, lawful place of entertainment. Who could've guessed it would draw someone else's envy?"
"If you're a good man, then Gotham has no bad men."
Commissioner Gordon gave a cold laugh.
Penguin didn't seem to mind. He looked at Li Ang and the others, then suddenly broke into a friendly smile. "You all did great. I'll give you a bonus later. Take two days off."
Then he went to deal with the Gotham Police Department.
Everyone was questioned, even Penguin.
After all, the Iceberg Lounge was his territory.
By the time everything was finished, dawn was nearly breaking.
Only then did Victor, the bald man, come over to Penguin and ask quietly, "Should we retaliate?"
"Retaliate against whom?"
Penguin's expression was flat. "What would we gain from getting back at them?"
"We're a gang, not a bunch of brainless idiots. Never do anything that brings us no profit."
"Of course, we should do something to reassure the boys."
Wayne Manor.
A Batmobile bounced through the tunnel like a bumper car, entering the hidden Batcave in a shower of sparks.
The hatch opened, and Bruce Wayne jumped out, removing his helmet.
"Judging from your grim expression, sir, I'd say tonight didn't go well."
An elderly voice sounded. Alfred held a tray bearing hot coffee and a warm, damp towel.
Bruce Wayne couldn't stop thinking about Li Ang.
He was someone Bruce had never encountered before. Unless he found out everything he could about Li Ang, he wouldn't be able to rest easy.
He wished he knew every single person in Gotham.
He picked up the coffee, ignoring the towel, and said to Alfred, "I want you to investigate someone."
"I've already done so."
Alfred truly was the Butler Hero.
And after serving Bruce Wayne for so long, he knew him inside and out.
When Bruce went to the Supercomputer, Li Ang's information was already on the screen.
"He came to Gotham under an assumed name, and he brought a 'daughter' with him."
"But it's clear that he adopted her."
"As for his earlier history, that information is officially classified."
Alfred set the tray aside. "Sir, you should think this through. This could involve some mysterious department..."
But before he could finish, Bruce Wayne had already started cracking the "classified" files.
"All right. You've always been like this."
Alfred had no choice. He was used to Bruce Wayne's personality.
The files were cracked in no time.
When Bruce Wayne opened the classified information, all the records appeared on the screen.
Li Ang's personal information, along with details of his previous life in Ohio.
It all seemed utterly unremarkable. He'd lived like an ordinary young American, spending his days chasing women or doing nothing at all.
But then Bruce Wayne opened a video taken by a satellite.
The footage was blurry, but the scene could just about be made out.
A spaceship had landed on Earth, and Li Ang had walked over and opened it.
Then... a girl had crawled out.
"Oh, dear."
Alfred spoke in a crisp British accent. "It looks like this girl is an alien."
Bruce Wayne nodded.
"Worse still, someone helped them cover their tracks. Otherwise, they would've been discovered long ago, even in Gotham."
"All right. Should we start considering the possibility of aliens destroying Earth?"
Alfred joked, but Bruce Wayne really did frown.
Seeing that, Alfred could only say, "Don't take it so seriously. Maybe she's just a survivor."
As Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred had always been the more optimistic one, a ray of sunshine in Bruce's life.
"What I'm wondering is whether there might be other aliens on Earth."
Li Ang got a few days off.
The Iceberg Lounge had been damaged, and it would clearly take a few days to renovate.
At the very least, they had to patch up all those bullet holes.
And after this incident, it was hard to say whether the Iceberg Lounge's reputation would suffer.
But that was Penguin's problem to worry about.
Before leaving, Penguin had even offered Li Ang a few words of encouragement. He really did seem to think highly of him.
With the thousand-dollar bonus he'd just received in his pocket, Li Ang planned to buy something for Kara.
But even though dawn was near, most shops still hadn't opened.
Li Ang could only head to nearby Chinatown.
Sure enough, although it was only a little after five, the breakfast shops were already open.
He bought several steaming hot meat buns, two cups of soy milk, and a few youtiao, then hurried back.
Luckily, the Diamond District and Chinatown were right next to each other. With his current physical abilities, he could jog all the way back at a controlled pace without breaking a sweat.
