Morino Kei's eyes widened in confusion.
"Come on, even a Jonin might not be able to complete this mission, and they're only paying that much? Are they kidding?"
His words brimmed with resentment. Morino Kei looked like a deflated balloon, watching a lavish feast and exquisite gifts wave goodbye to him.
"Heh. What did you expect? The client was Yugakure." Uchiha Kai shot him an exasperated look.
"Teacher Huiyi crushed a Mist Ninja Anbu squad captain right in front of their law enforcement officers, on their turf. With something that serious happening, we're lucky they paid us the full agreed-upon fee."
Morino Kei froze at that, then scratched the top of his supposedly wise head.
"Ahahaha... Right, they're actually pretty decent."
"Enough. Just focus on recovering. Teacher Huiyi took all the pressure on himself. I heard from the clan elders that..."
"That old bastard Danzo's been running to the Third Hokage to complain about this every day for the past couple of days." Uchiha Kai's expression turned colder, a dangerous glint in his eyes.
"That old bastard only dares throw his weight around with his own people. He spends all day plotting schemes. Heh, you wouldn't believe it."
Morino Kei's expression grew mischievous as he lowered his voice conspiratorially.
"I heard through the grapevine that old bastard Danzo was too cowardly to become the Hok—"
Uchiha Kai suddenly clamped a hand over his mouth, stopping him mid-sentence.
"Watch what you say. You can't go around saying things like that in public..." Uchiha Kai and the others said helplessly.
They looked around, as if wary of being overheard.
What a brainless idiot. He'll say anything, even things that undermine unity. Now I understand why the Senju Clan disappeared from Konoha so quickly.
