Kenma built his power through the Quincy war, a pact with Hell, and an alliance with Aizen, then betrayed Yoruichi and Kisuke to seize the Seireitei. Yamamoto seemingly killed Kenma, but he regenerated and returned to battle, where their clash damaged Kenma’s Bankai.

Arc 9The Pure Land and New Heirs

Kenma defeated the Six Paths Brothers, brought the Ninja World’s dead under his authority, and began organizing the Seireitei while Yoruichi revealed she was pregnant. As Kenma prepared for a new war and recruited allies, the executions of Danzō, Obito, and Itachi led him to investigate Hell and Kisuke Urahara’s hidden knowledge.

  • Kenma defeated Hagoromo Otsutsuki and Hamura Otsutsuki with his Bankai, then joined Big Mom and Kaido to check the other battles.
  • Kenma overcame Sasuke and Obito, while the Ten-Tails emerged as the Divine Tree, and Fugaku’s clansmen took the Four Hokage’s souls and brought Sasuke and Naruto back.

Arc 10The Shadow Empire War

Kenma led an invasion of the Quincy Shadow Empire, fought through Silbern, and destroyed what he believed was Yhwach’s body. The campaign ended with the Quincy resistance largely crushed, while battles against Gerard, Askin, and Gremmy continued.

  • Kenma removed Sukuna from Yuji Itadori, took his technique, and killed him before returning home for the birth of Yoruichi’s son, Shikokuin Tōichirō.
  • Kenma’s forces opened a passage into the Shadow Space and invaded the Quincy city, while Yamamoto Shigekuni and Kagaya Ubuyashiki inspected the Onmitsukidō’s preparations.
  • Akainu, Garp, Kuzan, Whitebeard, and other allies fought the Quincy as Kaido and Big Mom battled the Sternritter near the Royal Palace.
  • Kenma entered Silbern with Shisui and Mayuri Kurotsuchi, killed Lille Barro and Haschwalth, and confronted a disguised impostor who claimed to be Yhwach.
  • Kenma destroyed the corpse in Yhwach’s coffin after Shisui found it, then flew to a plateau where Gerard Valkyrie and Gremmy Thoumeaux were still fighting.

Arc 11The Hollowfication Crisis

After defeating the Quincy, Kenma consolidated his power, entered a secret partnership with Aizen, and made a pact with Hell. When Aizen’s Hollowfication operation struck the Gotei 13, Urahara was framed and Kenma set out to take custody of the accused while searching for a cure.

  • Kenma learned that Haschwalth had escaped with Yhwach and other Sternritter, announced victory, and later accepted the title Underworld King.
  • Kenma retaliated against Yamamoto with a surprise inspection of the First Division, while Kyōraku traced the growing conflict between the Gotei 13 and Onmitsukidō to Tokinada’s influence.
  • Aizen showed Kenma his Hollowfication experiments, and Kenma agreed to fund the research and help obtain another Orb.
  • Kenma entered Hell, secured its acceptance as its administrator, and returned to find that Sengoku planned to execute the Quincy prisoners.
  • Zero Division took Kiryū Kirishiki to the Soul King Palace, and Kenma refused to back down despite suspecting its warning was aimed at him.
  • Kenma ordered Aizen to begin the operation, and the Gotei 13 captains investigating the disappearances began to Hollowify.
  • Aizen escaped after Urahara and Kirinji interrupted him, while Urahara’s attempt to treat the captains was disrupted by Mu and an unseen attacker.
  • Urahara accused Kenma and others of orchestrating the incident, but Aizen’s illusion confused the witnesses, and Kenma left to seek Urahara’s transfer to the Onmitsukidō so he could investigate and find a cure.

Arc 12The Seireitei Uprising

Kenma betrayed Yoruichi and Kisuke, then launched a war to seize the Seireitei and challenge Yamamoto. Though Yamamoto seemingly killed him and later unleashed his Bankai, Kenma regenerated and returned to the fight, where their weapons were damaged in a clash of time and heat.

  • Kenma admitted his role in the captains’ plight, took Kisuke’s Benihime, and joined forces with Aizen after Kisuke and the others escaped.
  • Kenma gathered his commanders and began the uprising, while Yoruichi learned the scale of his plans and confronted him over his betrayal.
