Background / History
Before his mastery of the Primordial Dao, the Immeasurable Tribulation Venerable was already a Spirit Transmutation Peak Stage great cultivator pursuing immortality. While seeking resources beyond the universe, he pierced the cosmic boundary wall and encountered Chaos. After sealing the initial breach, his personality changed drastically. He then dispersed his cultivation, refined his former body into the Faceless Person, and restarted his cultivation to seize control of the Primordial Dao 548.
Having mastered the Primordial Dao, he began the first Primordial Tribulation. His later policy centered on restricting the number of Golden Core, Nascent Soul, and Spirit Transmutation cultivators in order to delay the Immortal Tribulation and prevent the Cultivation World from exhausting its finite resources 330 524.
Across multiple epochs, he planted Abyssal Shadows within cultivation civilizations. These shadows replaced powerful cultivators, inherited their memories and abilities, and either infiltrated or ruled major factions in his interests. Several former opponents, including Extreme Sword Heavenly Lord and Saintly Law Heavenly Monarch, were turned into shadows after resisting him 435 513 532.
At the edge of the universe, he personally repaired breaches in the cosmic boundary wall with five-colored Chaos-infused paste. He regarded himself as a “patcher” delaying the inevitable invasion of Chaos, while preparing to trigger the Immortal Tribulation when the number of new-era Spirit Transmutation cultivators reached fifty 539 543.
Appearance
His true form is an incomprehensibly vast figure in a gray Daoist robe, so immense that observers can see only part of his body at once. It is described as larger than a galaxy and, in battle, larger than several galaxies combined 539 564 566.
- Normally appears as a boundless giant clad in gray Daoist robes. 564
- Possesses weathered eyes and an aged, dignified bearing. 568
- His movements while repairing the cosmic barrier are slow and laborious, likened to those of an elderly lifelong laborer. 539
- His avatar, the Faceless Person, appears as a normal-sized black humanoid without facial features. 437 539
Personality
The Immeasurable Tribulation Venerable is calm, controlled, and overwhelmingly confident in his superiority. Even after his clone and many subordinates are defeated, he remains unhurried because he believes his main body can suppress and reshuffle the entire universe at will 561.
He justifies mass sacrifice as necessary to preserve the Cultivation World from resource exhaustion, Dharma’s End, and Chaos invasion. This conviction leads him to treat lower cultivators as resources to be rationed, converted, or culled through tribulations 524 543 565.
Despite his ruthlessness, he genuinely spends ages sealing cosmic breaches and preventing Chaos from consuming the universe. In his final confrontation with Su Yuan, he acknowledges Su Yuan as the leader suited to a new era and chooses to yield rather than ascend as an immortal at the cost of the universe’s Spiritual Power 568.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Mastermind Behind the Immortal Tribulation
He is identified as the being behind the Immortal Tribulation and the supreme obstacle in Su Yuan’s System quest. The System describes him as the “Devil of all Devils” and requires Su Yuan to find moles he planted in the Cultivation World 412.
Infiltration of the Holy Law Executive Council
He first reveals himself through the Corrupting Heavenly Monarch’s body during the conflict with the Holy Law Executive Council. Although this manifestation is only a clone, its aura freezes multiple Spirit Transmutation cultivators and forces the assembled opponents into submission-level pressure 437.
Guardian of the Cosmic Boundary
While Su Yuan is chosen as the Immortal Slaying Sword’s wielder, the Venerable is shown repairing proliferating holes in the cosmic barrier. His simultaneous role as cosmic guardian and civilization-resetting tyrant establishes the central conflict over whether his methods are necessary 538 539.
Triggering the Immortal Tribulation
After the fiftieth new-era Spirit Transmutation cultivator is born, he prepares to begin the Immortal Tribulation. Through the Faceless Person, he attempts to force major worlds into surrender and deploys Chaos Creatures against Blue Star 543 545.
Final Battle and Sacrifice
After Su Yuan eliminates most of his Spirit Transmutation forces, the Venerable descends in his true form. He withstands Su Yuan’s attacks, activates the universe-wide Primordial Tribulation, and nearly forces Su Yuan into defeat before Su Yuan gains Incense-derived Immortal Power 564 566 568.
Refusing to ascend to the True Immortal Realm at the cost of cutting off the universe’s Spiritual Power, he accepts that Su Yuan is better suited to lead the next era. He completes the Primordial Dao within Su Yuan, transforms into five-colored sealing material, and closes the Chaos breach 568.
