On Runeterra, Demacia was something of a martial nation, with plenty of experience in warfare.
This was clear from Demacia's "official path to promotion."
However, they usually fought defensive wars, so the Demacian Army had extensive experience with defensive tactics, especially holding cities under siege.
So, after seeing the city of Nazumah with his own eyes, Jarvan IV knew just how difficult it would be to storm it.
Unless he had no other choice, Jarvan IV would never choose to assault the walls head-on.
So here was the problem: if a direct assault was out of the question, how could they take Nazumah?
As he wrestled with the problem, Taric offered an idea.

They might as well give it a try!
For the past few days, the Demacian army had been marching in and out of camp and standing guard every day. Besides coordinating with the Dragon Riders, their activity also concealed Taric and the engineers digging behind them.

Taric's sense of the old Shuriman roads was also very vague. He was relying entirely on intuition—after all, he knew nothing about Shuriman architecture. He couldn't work it out logically and could only go by feel and guesswork.
So, after seven days of digging, the engineers were exhausted, and several soldiers had been bitten by scorpions and snakes they unearthed, but the Demacians had nothing substantial to show for it.
It wasn't until the eighth day that Taric, digging along
