On a sudden whim, she asked Uncle Zac to use the same channel that had brought hot spring water to the bathhouse and run some cooled hot spring water down from the mountain behind it, using bamboo. Then she started setting up a semiautomatic hot spring irrigation system across the entire field. In other words, rows of bamboo tubes would carry the water, which would drip onto each crop. That way, whenever she needed to water the plants, all Annie had to do was turn on the water at the hot spring when she went there to play, then remember to turn it off when she left.
