As everyone knew, the final battle of the Shattering War took place in the prosperous and fertile region of Aeonia, in the fields of Caelid. Two participants in that battle were "Starscourge" Radahn and Malenia, the "Blade of Miquella."
The battle ended with the blooming of the Scarlet Rot flower and both Radahn and Malenia grievously wounded. It was a battle with no victor.
Countless knights, soldiers, and heroes from both sides perished when that terrible flower of rot bloomed...
Ever since then, the spores of Scarlet Rot had filled Caelid's fields and skies. Countless vicious fungi and monsters had sprung up across the land, turning the once-prosperous, fertile fields of Caelid into a scarlet wasteland, never to regain their former glory.
They said that, even now, the soldiers of Redmane Castle were still fighting the rot.
