Day ten.
Although they had deliberately slowed their march, Guts and the Paladins of the Silver Hand had finally arrived at the battlefield just before the Papal Alliance, led and commanded by the "Eagle's" Band of the Hawk, launched its attack on Wyndham, the capital of Midland.
After making their preparations, they had lined up all three thousand knights on a hilltop well away from the battlefield. There, they were surprised to see that beyond the imposing "Eagle-Papal Alliance" arrayed outside Wyndham, a huge, terrifying shadow was slowly rising within the city.
"Look!"
"What is that?"
"Holy Light!"
"W-what kind of monster is that?"
"A monster?"
"No!"
"That thing's beyond the word 'monster'..."
"It's enormous!"
"Y-you've got to be kidding! Are we really supposed to fight something like that?"
"No..."
"Not us. At least, not yet..."
"Hey..."
"How big do you think that thing is?"
"Who knows..."
"I think one step would be enough to flatten all three thousand of us. And we wouldn't even be able to run..."
The Paladins of the Silver Hand weren't blind. They had all seen the enormous, terrifying monster slowly emerging in Wyndham. It stood within the city, its body rising into the sky and vanishing into the clouds, as tall as the highest mountain. Countless gigantic tentacles writhed like dreadful vines, and beneath it, Midland's capital looked no bigger than a bathtub.
"This..."
"C-Commander!"
"What is that thing?!"
While the Paladins whispered in fear, trying to suppress their unease, Farnese had not been idle. She rode straight over to Guts, the Paladin Highlord and commander of the order, who was just as stunned as everyone else, and asked in a nervous, trembling voice.
Before they had set out, Guts had told them that they would see something different at the decisive battle today.
