Two days later.
Annie was once again summoned to a workshop in the Orville's engineering department by the same bunch of people who never learned their lesson.
There, she found everyone gathered around the phone, watching with great interest a video from four hundred years ago that was playing on it. They were also staring at the pretty lady in the video as she introduced herself.
After observing them for a while, Annie finally asked, sounding a little bored:
"So!"
o(*?^?*)
"You did what I told you and managed to get it working, huh?"
(?▽?)
As she spoke, Annie looked straight at John, that weird old guy, because she knew he was in charge of engineering.
But even with her instructions, it had taken him a full two days to fix the phone. That was pretty lame. Back on Earth four hundred years ago, an engineer with such poor skills probably wouldn't even have been able to keep a tiny phone-repair shop in some street corner running.
That alone made Annie think the guy's supposedly brightest-in-the-Planetary-Union brain wasn't quite up to par.
Especially since she remembered how, last time, he'd lost control of his emotions and nearly had his brain blown out by aliens twice. That little bit of history was more than enough to make her look down on him.
"Yeah!"
"At first, we tried charging it, but it still wouldn't turn on."
"Then I simply upgraded and replaced the battery. I increased its original, very small capacity to the industry standard of our era, so it can run continuously for at least ten years without charging."
"It's all set now!"
"You can look through the data on it and study it as much as you like. I even used the data cable Annie mentioned to make an adapter
