They had agreed to travel through the night, but people weren't machines; they couldn't go without sleep. So after only half a night on the road, around one or two in the morning, Edgin and the others had only just left Neverwinter's territory when they had to find a sheltered hollow between the hills, light a campfire, and set up camp to rest. They planned to set off again once it was fully light the next day.
Beside the blazing campfire, Edgin first glanced at the troublesome little girl sleeping soundly on the giant bear's belly. Then he looked over at the barbarian Holga, who was still awake and apparently lost in thought, and asked quietly, with a sigh:
"Hey!"
"Holga, what do you think... what level is her magic item?"
"It can grow and shrink, serve as a mount on the road, and keep up with our horses. It can also fight and protect us, and when it's time to sleep, it can even be a bed..."
"And we don't have to worry about wild animals attacking us at all..."
As he spoke, Edgin made no effort to hide how envious he was of Annie's little bear, Tibbers. He wished he could get a similar magic item for his daughter, who was still "held captive" by Forge.
"Where on earth did she find a magical construct like that?"
"If it isn't too expensive, I'd really like to get one for Kira too!"
"Then, whenever we have to go somewhere in the future, we won't need to worry about Kira's safety anymore, right?"
By now, Edgin had no doubts about the power of Annie's bear. According to Simon, Tibbers was likely some kind of extremely advanced alchemical creation or enchanted construct—perhaps even a legendary-level magical toy golem.
But
