The Battle of Neverwinter ended in a great victory for the city after a certain supposedly most, most, most, most, most, most, most, most, most, most, most, most... most powerful super Arcane Archmage—the troublesome Queen of Neverwinter—returned just in time and intervened with overwhelming force.
The battle was so bizarre, and the difference between its beginning and end so staggering, that news of it quickly spread like wildfire across Faerûn, where people discussed it with relish.
This was especially true in the Lord Alliance region of northern Faerûn. The queens, dukes, marshals, marquises, and other lords there had been hesitantly mustering their forces, reluctant to send reinforcements to Neverwinter. Before they could even officially set out, they learned of the city's astonishing victory.
They had clearly never imagined that, after the dragon in Neverwinter was defeated, the city's soldiers and civilians suffered nearly ten thousand casualties, and its southern district fell in just half a day—forcing the defenders to retreat to the northern district and blow up the bridge just to cling to life—the Queen of Neverwinter would return in time and single-handedly kill two adult Black Dragons, capture a full seven or eight Red Wizards, and summon a tsunami that flooded Neverwinter, scattering the hundred thousand or so Undead, while terrifying the few remaining Red Wizard survivors into fleeing in disarray.
To be honest, the terrifying power to determine the outcome of an entire war single-handedly had left the various queens, dukes, marshals, marquises, and other lords of the Lord Alliance badly shaken. At first, they had even thought the reports were fake.
But as more detailed accounts continued to arrive, and the nobles and wealthy merchants who had fled Neverwinter earlier began happily packing their belongings and hurrying back to the city, they had no choice but to
