Just as Annie was preparing to lead those useless human defenders in wiping out every last demon that had burrowed into the shelter, something unexpected happened. The Warp Daemons copied the humans' earlier tactic and, without waiting for all the demons to retreat, boldly collapsed the large warehouse passage between residential units "A-109" and "A-108." That cut off the three residential units they occupied, A-106 through A-108, from the rest of the shelter under human control.

Seeing that the Warp Daemons seemed thoroughly frightened, and that the defenders—though cheering—were still shaken and had no intention of digging out the collapsed passage, Annie reluctantly called off her attack for the time being. She instead helped the soldiers hunt down the few demons that had hidden or become separated from the others.

About half an hour later...

After Annie and the furious human soldiers had finished clearing out all the lone Warp Daemons that had been hiding, the defenders began setting up a defensive line, deploying troops and heavy weapons inside the A-109 warehouse. The collapsed passage remained quiet on the other side, with no sign that the demons were digging through. The humans had no intention of breaking through and attacking, either. With little left to do, Annie was ready to leave for the surface, but the shelter's higher-ups respectfully invited her to a reception area in the military district.

Annie hadn't planned to go. She had never liked dealing with those troublesome adults who always had so much to say and so many things to do.

But she'd been wandering around for most of the day, then had fought her way through a battle, and now she was hungry. Since stopping for a meal before leaving seemed like a reasonable reward, she happily agreed and followed them.
