Everyone went their own way

Thursday arrived in the blink of an eye. It was a lovely day, bright and breezy.

At around half past three in the afternoon, the first-year students were finally about to attend their very first Flying Class on the lawn in front of Hogwarts Castle, where they would learn how to fly on broomsticks.

After all, flying was a skill every witch and wizard had to master. Any wizard who couldn't ride a broom would be laughed at. It was supposedly as important as a driver's license in the Muggle World.

As the Gryffindor first-years walked in small groups toward the Flying Class grounds, a few boys at the front began whispering:

"Have you heard?"

"What?"

"Peeves went on a rampage in the castle last night, shouting and making a scene. He said someone had broken into the corridor on the right-hand side of the fourth floor and attacked him..."

"What?"

"Merlin!"

"No way! Dumbledore warned us that going over there could be life-threatening. We've only been at school for a few days!"

"Tell me about it."

"So what happened? Did they catch anyone?"

"No..."

"But Professor McGonagall has already gone to talk to Ron's twin brothers, George and Fred, because someone saw them out last night..."

"Whoa! They're in trouble!"

"Not exactly."

"Because I also heard that they admitted they'd been out, but only said they'd gone to the kitchens for food. They swore they'd never been near the fourth-floor corridor, and after Professor McGonagall checked with the kitchens, she let them go."

"What?"

"If it wasn't them, then who was it?"

"No idea. Maybe Peeves made it up?"

"You know Peeves. He loves playing tricks, and he's a ghost. Ordinary wizards can't hurt him!"

"True..."

"So it really was one of Peeves's pranks?"
