That evening, Madam Hooch, the Flying Class instructor, came to the office and sitting room of Professor McGonagall, the Gryffindor Head of House, to report on Neville breaking his arm. While she was there, she also mentioned Harry Potter.
She knew that Professor McGonagall had always wanted to strengthen the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. She had even asked Hooch to keep an eye out for promising students during class. Hooch had kept that in mind, so now that she had the chance, she brought it up right away.
"You mean..."
"Using one of the school's ordinary brooms..."
"Potter dived fifty feet, then managed to catch a ball?"
"And he didn't hit anything or hurt himself?"

Though McGonagall found what Hooch had told her hard to believe, she still handed Hooch the cup of hot tea in her hand.
She knew that Harry Potter had been raised by a Muggle family. He had known nothing about the wizarding world growing up and had never even touched a broomstick. If what Hooch said was true, then she really would have to give it some serious thought.
After all, considering that Potter had managed that on his very first time on a broomstick, and had earned such high praise from Madam Hooch, this went far beyond ordinary talent. That level of ability had to be exceptional!
