No one knew what had happened in that greenhouse!

Anyway, a series of chaotic screams, wails, cries, and struggles suddenly rang out from inside. The commotion was so frightening that the birds perched in the nearby trees took flight and fled from the terrifying place.

Fortunately, the noise soon died down, and it didn't attract the attention of any teachers or students at Hogwarts Castle in the distance.

More than ten minutes after the noise had finally gone quiet, a passing owl was struck down by something. It quickly took off again, flapping its wings in a panicked rush toward Hogwarts Castle. Another ten minutes later, Headmaster Dumbledore, still dressed in his dressing gown, hurried to the greenhouse with Severus Snape, the Potions Class professor.

Soon, after finding the greenhouse where the trouble had started, Dumbledore and Snape pushed open the glass doors and immediately saw a sight that left them utterly shocked:

A whole mass of enormous plants, like man-eating flowers, had used their tendrils to bind student after student. Even Professor Pomona Sprout had been caught?

Then the plants' thick, monstrous leaves, shaped like mouths, had locked the students and Professor Pomona Sprout inside their "jaws." Only their despairing, sorrowful, helpless faces were visible, along with their limp arms and legs, which weakly dangled as they tried to pry the "jaws" open.

They also noticed that the students and teachers, writhing and wailing, were already covered from head to toe in the fluid secreted by the giant man-eating-flower-like plants. The situation did look rather dangerous.

"Th-this..."

"When did the school greenhouse get such terrifying plants?"

"Why didn't I know about them?"

Without another word, Dumbledore hurriedly pulled out his wand and stepped forward to inspect the scene. As he looked around the
