In this world, one ordinary person—or even several—without a weapon capable of inflicting serious damage and without exceptional skill would obviously stand no chance against a terrifying steel beast. There was no doubt about it!
In fact, even if they faced the weakest kind of steel beast, ordinary people—and even well-trained soldiers—would most likely end up dead beneath the claws of those steel monsters. That was true even if they were armed, unless they had enough experience, the right mindset, or a decisive advantage in weapons. The creatures were made almost entirely of steel and reacted faster than most carbon-based life-forms.
The situation here was proof of that!
A well-trained armed search team of more than a dozen people, fierce in battle, perfectly coordinated, and unafraid of death, had all kinds of individual and anti-armor weapons at their disposal. Yet when they ran into a single, seemingly ordinary "Bamboo Elephant Heavy Beast," they were nearly wiped out. That alone said a lot.
And perhaps the situation was even worse than that.
If Annie hadn't heard the commotion and arrived in time today, not one of those armed personnel would have made it out alive!
The Bamboo Elephant Heavy Beast was only a very ordinary steel beast. Its speed, agility, and firepower were all average; its armor was just a little thicker than usual. Yet even that single steel beast had left an entire team of elite human fighters utterly helpless.
If they faced one of the more powerful steel beasts—or the supposedly even stronger Mechanical Race, with its intelligence, organization, population, and warships—who knew how terrible humanity's fate in this world would be?
Perhaps that was why, every so often, this world abducted millions of people with "pilot" potential from other worlds and forcibly dumped them here.
It made sense!
