Three days later, as sunlight filtered through sparse clouds and bathed the vast expanse of the Foel Basin in a soft golden glow, the carriage carrying Annie, Frieren, and Fern finally reached their destination after a fairly long journey.

They had come to find a warrior of the Dwarf people—Eisen, Frieren's former companion in their adventures and their quest to defeat the Demon King.

After Himmel and Heiter had both passed away, the only one of Frieren's old companions still alive was the elderly Dwarf Eisen. So when Frieren realized their route took them nearby, she naturally decided to pay him a visit.

After all, Dwarves lived only about four hundred years, a mere fraction of Frieren's long lifespan. She was over a thousand years old and still looked like a young girl—more youthful even than Fern.

When the four of them had set off on their adventures to defeat the Demon King, Eisen had been in his prime. Now, eighty years later, his strength had faded, and he had entered old age, no longer able to fight.

Frieren figured he probably didn't have many decades left to live. If she didn't visit while passing through this time, by the next time she thought of him, Eisen might already be buried in the ground.
